My wife had a surgery - winged scapula

Hi all,

fist of all , please excuse me for my bad english (writing from Portugal)

last year my wife suffered an work accident and after several months of uncertainty and after several doctors a diagnostic was issued: Long Thracic nerve injury with winged scapula in right arm.

18 months after the accident my wife was operated: nerve neurolysis through arthroscopy.

meanwhile, several secondary problems have developed.

A huge and persistent contracture has affected the trapezius muscle and sternocleidomastoid muscle. This "forces" my wife's head to "tilt" to the right side, causing neck pain and instability in the balance of the face muscles (mainly the Temperomandibular joint/masseter)

Right now, 2 months after surgery, my wife is recovering but the signs of recovery are not showing up ... maybe it's too soon.

I have not found a single case of winging scapula around here, every doctor we asked for help said "i have seen anything like this before". :(

so, i'd like to ear from your experiences, of course, each case is .. a case .. and what applies to you maybe it's not valid to my wife, but i'm trying to gather some knowledge so i can support my wife more effectively

The million dollar question in my head right now is: how long does is take a nerve to recover ?

other concerns:
is there any secondary problems regarding neurolysis ? what are the possible side effects linked to a surgery like this one ?

Best regards

Rui Madaleno
