hi all, im new to this group and only got diagnoised with TN last thursday. i must say im a little scared with it all. ive been researchig alot, but alot of the sites ive viewed have said that most people who get TN are over the age of 50, im only 22. ive been put on carbamazepine and its been making me feel pretty groggy and out of it so have had to have a couple days off work. fortunately i only work3 days but ive got a little girl so unfortunately its not made me any fun for her! im just wanting a little help in understandin the condition, my partner doesnt understand at all and thinks that im over exagerating when ive had the pain, he either doesnt understand that ive got tn for good or he doesnt want to admit it. has anyone else had any problems with partners?

Hi Carly, and welcome to NeuroTalk!

Be sure to have a look around. There are so many forums with different topics, and there are lots of caring and helpful people. :)

I'm sorry that your partner doesn't understand. Maybe with time and some education on TN, that will resolve.

Hi, Carly! It's nice to meet you! :) I don't know a lot about TN, but I know pain. And half of the people here know all too well how difficult it is for our partners and families to understand that we've changed, and aren't just wearing a mask. :o Wishing you the best...:)

:)

TN can wreak havoc to your daily life. No matter what you need to be doing you have to give in to TN and take care of yourself till you get through that episode.

Yes, our partners can't see inside of us and can't read our minds. We may expect them to know what we're going through, but they don't.

I posted the other day and said "use love for glue" if you have stress cracks in your relationship. :D:D:D

I also suggested we needed a thread for our partners. I'm sure they're confused about us and what they should do or should not do.

I've also found writing a list of things to do will prevent a lot of misunderstandings and get more things accomplished.

Being incapacited for whatever reason is scary for us. No instructions for it. Each situation is uniquely demanding. Use your past experiences to plan for the next time out.

Communication is an acquired skill. It takes practice to keep harmony. It is a learning curve for us to endure, and our partners.
