whiplash followed by loss of power in arms and legs
 

10 weeks ago (june 5th 2007) I was rear ended whilst driving. At first I thought I was suffering from 'normal whiplash injuries'. After 1 week, I began experiencing severe spasms in my neck which drag me to the floor and are extremely painful. I have these episodes on DVD for Doctors' to see.
My G.P. witnessed me having one of these attacks and had never seen a presentation like it before.
After 8 weeks, I had an involuntary jolt with my head being thrown backwards and immediate paralysis in my arms and legs. After 3-4 hours, the feeling in my limbs returned.
An MRI was ordered and the results have been returned with no problems.
I am continuing to experience the spasms and jolts and am now very anxious that I do not have another jolt backwards that causes paralysis again as I fear it could then go from temporary to permanent. I am now waiting to see a Neurologist.
Has anyone ever heard of this type of Pathology / diagnosis.
I would very much appreciate any help.

Did they also do an x-ray and a CT scan??

I think you should see an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon trained in spinal surgery IMMEDIATELY. Don't wait for an appointment -- go in as an emergency.

This doesn't sound good and it doesn't sound like you should have waited this long for treatment.

I've had many whiplashes (speed-demon ex-husband :p ) and they were nothing like what you're reporting.

Hugs. Get yourself to the doctor immediately -- go through the emergency ward if you have to. Come back and let us know how you're doing.

Hi Barb,
I have not had a CT Scan as an ortho doc said that my MRI showed to be so clear, it was unlikely that a CT would show anything. I did have an ordinary x-ray of my cervical spine which showed that the bones were all intact. My case is really baffling my G.P. However, I am absolutely convinced that there will be someone that has had or treated these very same symptoms.

Is it dystonia
 

I have had another total body paralysis and was admitted to hospital and had MRI and MRA scans which turned out to be negative!!!
The Full Body Paralysis Is Confirmed By the Hospital. The problem is that no one can give me a reason or a diagnosis/ prognosis. I have been prescribed Clonazepam1 X 500 microgram tablets 3 times a day and 200 mg Gabapentin 3times per day.
Does this sound like they think it is dystonia or are they just having a shot in the dark?
Is there a specific test for dystonia?
I would very much appreciate any help
