Asthma is hard
 

Well, I finally got diagnosed with asthma just last week. My doctor put me back on Allegra-D on top of all the asthma meds that I'm on as well. I was running a slight fever from the Allegra-D like I always do and I was taking ibuprofen all week, which ended up giving me asthma problems. So I was sick all week from that. Now I'm so far behind in homework and with everything that I just want to cry. I've been working hard to get caught up with every thing but it is so hard. This asthma is really hard on me. I wish that I was able to breathe better.

If you have a documented disability(asthma) and it has caused you to fall behind in class, you should be able to get an accomodation from the ADA (Americans with Disabilities)

I don't what level you are going to school? high school, college?

I go to college and last August I got sick (I am disabled with thoracic outlet syndrome) I was established with the office of academic success (for disabled people)so I was able to take an incomplete for a grade. Taking an incomplete grade gives me a year to get the material done to finish the class.

The stress will make your asthma worse so if possible try not to be stressed.

I didn't even know that. Thanks for the information, I will talk to my psychiatrist about it when I go see him next week. I am diagnosed with asthma, depression and sever allergies, so that should be enough to get me on disability hopefully. I will see. Thanks again.

Here is some good information on asthma.

Please take asthma very seriously.

On March 23 I had an acute asthma attack and my daughter found me unconscious on the couch and my face she said was blue.

The paramedics came and took me to the ER. I was in ICU for 2 days and on the telemetry floor for 2 days. The last day I was on the medical floor.

I asked my doctor 'What happened to me"
He said, "you must have had a cold a few weeks ago and your chest started tightening up."
I said " you mean asthma?"
He said, " yes, you had an asthma attack, you almost died."

I don't mean to scare you. I knew I was wheezing but I never really had a problem with asthma.
I made sure my kids had their breathers but as a mom I didn't take care of myself.
It almost killed me, when I was unconscious I inhaled sputum into my lungs and got aspiration pneumonia.

Thanks for these websites and everything. I know what asthma is all about however. I have seen first hand what it can do. My older sister has sever asthma and her oldest daughter has it too. The funny part is that my family always thought that I would be the first one to get it, but instead the last one. LOL! I know what causes me to go into an asthma attack and I know what my boundaries are. I have been avoiding those things that causes my asthma to get worse as much as I can. I mean I can't avoid going outside because I just have things I have to do every day like going to classes and everything. So there are some things I still have to deal with but I am learning to cope with it. Thanks again!
