Recommend A Book!
 

What is your favorite book? Recommend your favorite book that you have read and what book you are going to read next.

I like the No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. Lots of nice emotional interactions, and solving of human problems based in Botswana. These books are small, but very very good. You should start with the first one, and move thru them in order.
They follow a life pattern with the characters.

Right now I am reading Wife of the Gods, by Kwei Quartey.
This takes place in Ghana, and is similar in vein, only more complex, with a more intense storyline. But most of the "detecting" is done by psychological work.

I am only about 1/2 thru this one, so far, but it is very very interesting!
This is Quartey's first book.

I just found Quartey's book when I picked up my latest McCall Smith one, "Teatime for the Traditionally Built" which I just finished.

One of my all time favorites is Lonsome Dove by Larry McMurtry. It's a western which I don't typically like but I enjoyed it anyway.

I just finished Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson. He is a mountain climber that has been establishing schools in remote villages in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I learned a lot about the region and culture.

Next up is In Cold Blood, by Truman Capote. It has been gathering dust on the shelf for years. I'm trying to read all the books I have piled up and never gotten to.

My fave books are by David Eddings two series of books First is called the Belgariad. Second series The malloriean. Fantastic fantsey books.

I allso like Patricia Cornwall the Scarpetta books. Will stop there as I don't want to bore folkes.:grouphug: xxxxxxx

I have a fantasy series too... filled with adult themes, but rather
violent, with sociopathic people killing each other off...but still very intriguing and very well written.

I read all sorts of things. My hubby suggested Martin this summer so I read 4000+pgs... 4 books. This is sort of an adult Harry Potter thingey. But very adult.Some magic, but mostly like a medieval historical novel, with knights, etc. Martin is just a great writer and pulls this off very well.

I think it is hard to have a "favorite". I find myself trying all sorts of things. I like to go to the book sales my library does twice a year, and pick up things for .50 cents... little treasures!

When I was younger I read more non-fiction. Now I am branching out into other areas! ;)

I love books to I'm still a kid at heart at times to I still have my Famouse Five series of books by Enid Blyton. Still love to read them. xxxxxxx

I keep track of every book that I read as of today I have read 72 books this year, down from 110 last year.

My all time favorite is Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston...it has southern African American dialog, which takes getting used to for Northern folks like me...I once recommended it to our book club. they spent the whole evening making fun of the names and language.
Needless to say, I quit that club...:mad:
Anyway, the imagery is beautiful in the novel...and the story is captivating.

My all-time favorite book is War and Peace (Maude translation), I truly love that one.

Since I exhausted my state library system's collection of true crime books a few years ago, I've devoted myself to reading all the great classics of world lit. I love them!

I just finished The House of Seven Gables (finally, after way too many years), and am about to start The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis (after my nap).
