odd questions

i have rsd, diagnosed 2 years ago very early in my injury. question 1: has any one found a mattress and pillows? 2: excessive sweaty, i have read that around the injury may sweat, but what about just your whole body. that's all for now. i do have a tid bit- best heating pad ever- electric throws, but they are available only in season.

Well I have probably had 6 beds since this happened. I cant suggest a specific and I feel we are all different too in terms of how we sleep with the condition etc. Some things I look for is height of mattress, type such as pillowtop, etc. Also even items like sheets and blankets can flare me up in terms of texture and weight. You can also try the toppers for beds.
I do feel my whole body not just the rsd areas responds odd to temps. I seem to process what ever the temp is more so if it is cold I am frozen, hot I burn or swell etc.
I see you are new and welcome though sorry about the condition. If you feel comfortable you may want to share more.

My wife (who has RSD) and I are looking to purchase a "Sleep Number" bed. We've tested the bed and she likes it very much.

I do get the full body sweats...particularly at night...but to be honest this only started when mine spread out to my entire upper body and I didn't get it when the RSD was just in my left ankle (where it started).

I haven't noticed any difference between sleeping on different mattresses unfortunately...as I have to change positions all night long and cannot sleep/lay on my back at all because the pain is just too severe there to get comfortable. However...I have had to sleep on the couch for the past year because I cannot safely navigate the stairs all the time and since there is no bathroom upstairs in the bedroom it just isn't a good idea to sleep up there. So I honestly haven't exactly tried a lot of options.

Hello and welcome, so sorry you too are suffering. Sleeping for me is also a challenge I have yet to beat. I thought about the sleep number bed, but then I said I was going to try out the memory from topper. Right now I am just using pillows for support. It's kind of confusing because My extremities are cold but I wake up feeling sweaty as if I never bathe. I have become very embarrassed so I am always in the tub because I have never been much of a sweater until now. All soaks hurt, but I have found those diabetic soaks and the comfy ones with the vitamin E in them are very tolerable. I have severe pain in my scapula so I always keep a pillow for support. I suggest that you use whatever you can by trial and error to support your most painful areas. I hope this helps.

Hello Joygail

I want to welcome you to Neuro Talk. You have found a very compassionate site. There will be others along to help you find the proper forums. I am sorry you have RSD. There are quite a few on this site who suffer from it as well. I hope you get many responces, and that your questions can be answered. There also is alot of support here. Jimking,
don't waste your money. I got one and its horrible. Unfortunately I am still paying for it or I would get a temperpedic.

last night was horrible. I slept in pretty much nothing and had sweats all night. I currently have a sleep number which is horrible. I use my walker as a bed cradle to keep the blankets off. But last night I had head to toe sweats. Today my back is killing me and I have been on muscle relaxers because of the lack of sleep.
I know sometimes it can be medication withdraw, other times it just cant be explained. I have heard lots of good things about the temperpedic bed and as soon as this one is paid for I am going to try it.

I was thinking of a temperpedic and I liked sleeping on my brother's a few years back. I went bed shopping very late at night when the store was EMPTY and the saleswoman insisted I lie down on several models for several minutes each. What I ended up with is a strange hybrid I love. It is a spring mattress with memory foam and a pillow top. For pillows, I find down is the best thing for my neck and to use for travel or propping very body parts. I just purchased a 2 pack from Costco a month ago for $60 or so? I was worried they'd be low quality, but they're similar to others that cost over $100 per pillow.

I've had nightsweats, chills, and full body temperature regulation dysfunction for many years--and it started before I began taking meds that could cause the issue... I find that the more out of control my pain is, the greater the frequency of episodes. Taking baths helps reset my body temperature to normal. Having several light layers of blankets helps as well.

Re: on toppers

Hello to good sleep. boy we all need that. I already had a really good bed set. I bought a 4"topper of tempeur pedic from Bed Bath and Beyond. I know for myself, I keep very comfortable. I do not have RSD however. I just have it for my own back issues, this worked out very well without spending another huge amount for a new tempeur pedic full set. ginnie
