Frustrated with my neurologist

I am fairly certain I have TLE. From what my neuro describes, and what I have read, my sz are in line with that. Basically I feel like I have taken some sort of hallucinogen for a short period of time my senses and perspective get profoundly distorted then I get very confused, angry, and sleepy.

I had a brief in office eeg which showed nothing. But he gave me topamax anyway. He's telling me this could all be "anxiety." I'm not really sure what kind of anxiety makes a person feel like they have taken LSD.

I have an aeeg scheduled next week for 2 days outpatient. It's not like I want anything to show up but, I would like some answers. I'm not sure if there is an epileptologist around here or how I would even get a referral when this neuro guy thinks I'm just a hysterical female.

Hi Yagalada,

Welcome to the forum! I've had epilepsy for 42 yrs. along with have 2 brain surgeries to reduce my sz. and take my word I was told before my last surgery that there was no damage on the left side of my brain after doing all the testing but when they did the surgery they found damage on both the right and left temporal lobe of my brain that was to deep for any tests to show and this may be what's going on with you.
When I took Topamax the drug increased my sz. like crazy so I was off of it in about 1 month.
You mentioned that you feel very confused, sleepy, and angry. Many times after a person has had a sz. they are confused for a few seconds not remembering what happened, and the person feels tired. I also used to get wicked headaches that would last for 2 hrs. The anger could be coming from the right temporal lobe which shows a person emotions or the frontal lobe where your forehead is this area controls a persons temper/behavior.
My advice to you is to have your family Dr. refer you to see an Epileptologist at a Epilepsy Center. Often these places are at large hospitals or at University Hospitals. In the mean time cut back on the starch and carbs and stay away from diet soda or anything with NutraSweet in it because it has been proven to trigger sz. for many people. Try taking vitamin B12 1000 mcg. once a day this has greatly reduced my sz. because it calms the nervous system down. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!
