Another Newbie Here

Hello all -

This sure looks like a great forum. I found it thanks to a friend with Parkinsons - I wonder what took me so long? Finally a place where people have more weird and rare conditions than me!

I was diagnosed with transverse myelitis in March of 2006. At first it was assumed that I probably had MS and that this was the first manifestation of it. After 4-5 months of tests, exams and second opinions, we determined that it was actually more likely caused by either or both of two autoimmune antibodies which I was found to have.

So I'm sort of a hybrid between the neuro and the rheumatology departments. Makes it hard to get coordinated care sometimes, but I keep at it! I'm very insistent and proactive about my health care.

I battle neuropathic pain, fatigue and other funky disestheysias, but don't have any functional impairments, and have continued to work full time and try to do most of the other things I always used to do - if on a reduced scale. I love the outdoors, travel, and my Great Pyreneese puppy Milo.

I guess that's a long enough intro for now!

Hi, Sheryl, and welcome to NeuroTalk!

I see that you're navigating the forums just fine, we do have a TM forum and a forum for us MSrs. Stop on by, we talk about all sorts of things in there.:)

Hi, and thanks for the welcome. Actuallly I couldn't find a TM forum...

Is it a sub-form of something else, or am I just brain fogged? (very likely!)

Hello again - thanks for all the warm welcomes. I am looking forward to participating in this great community, and offering support to others as well as learning and sharing. As far as the link to TN ...close, very close, but I have TM. Both cause neuropathic pain, I guess, but TM involves an inflammed lesion of the spinal cord. I probably fit best in the MS forums... or the spinal cord injury area... or maybe with autoimmune diseases...

TM occurs in about 3-4 people per million, so I guess there won't be too many others here. But we also have a forum for discussion, thanks to the TMA - Transverse Myelitis Association.

Hope everyone has a fantastic Friday!

Sheryl
