Has anyone tried visiting a Chiropractor?

Just a quick question, my brother has suggested this for my SFPN and before I part with £500 on another wild goose chase, has anyone tried this and how successful was it?

Melody's husband went to a special chiropractor, with some benefit.

Send her a PM?

Be wary of chiropractors who say they can 'cure' your PN.
They can help with some relief, temporarily - but if they say they can 'cure' it they're lying.
I had one who said he could cure me, and it would only be 20 sessions 2x week for 10 weeks at only $60 per session
(10% off if paid in full - up front).
Riiiight !!!

Can somebody please explain how chiropractic medicine can even relieve small fiber neuropathy, especiall non-length dependent? Can't imagine that.

I don't see how, either. None of my symptoms would be able to be helped by a chiropractor. I have small fiber, large fiber, and limited autonomic.

But, this is what Melody said in one of her posts: "So that's why Alan (and his chiro-neurologist) always thought that his PN (only between certain toes) was caused by SOMETHING RELATED TO HIS BACK."

So, if the cause is a problem with the spine, treating the spine and realigning it (if that is the problem) may help the PN.

I'm not Melody or Alan so I don't know for sure.. but that's the only thing that makes sense to me. But that's not the cause most people have, so I don't see any benefit.

I don't know the "why" but I do know that chiropractic treatments helped John with his gait and balance.(less risk of falling now) We've stopped looking for the "one thing" that will resolve his PN and blood counts. Instead, our focus is on restoring and maintaining overall health. And if any of it helps his PN, that's just icing on the cake at this point.

There is a movement in US for "functional medicine" and chiropractors are starting to offer this.

There was a post here recently....
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread134485.html

The use of new "tools" like cold laser and some electrical things are being used more frequently at chiropractors.

However the "functional Medicine" ones are mega expensive!

I will say this for myself. I dislocated my right knee about 10 yrs ago, and it was awful. I went to a Ortho doc and he did an MRI of it thinking it had a tumor in it... which it didn't, and then he injected it with a steroid and marcaine. All the while my foot hurt, esp. my big toe. Well, I finally went to a chiro/kinesiologist here (one that other professionals used and thought highly of-- and in fact a colleague of mine was in the waiting room when I came out! LOL), and she
reset my knee, with an adjustment and the pain in my foot stopped instantly! It was referred pain from my knee which was out of alignment. (something the Ortho wouldn't even offer). She gave me stretches to do for it, to keep the adjustment and they worked too!.

So I have only gone 4 times but each of them has been productive for me. Not all pain in the foot comes from the back, I learned that day!
