Can anyone recommend non-constipating iron supplements?

I have been diagnosed with iron deficiency. I started taking Floradix (liquid iron) but it is not getting my stores up high enough even though it has lessened the hair loss and led to improved energy. The doctor wants me to take ferrous sulfate pills. I have terrible constipation and am worried about taking them. Has anyone tried something that has not affected your digestive system? Floradix was great (no digestive problems) but it is not doing the trick.

My doctor did prescribe something for chronic constipation called Amitiza but I have to confess I'm afraid to start using it. I'm just so tired of taking new prescription meds. Anyone taking Amitiza??

I have heard of prescription Repliva for iron deficiency but I think it was recalled?

I think a new prescription for iron deficiency just came out, literally today, called BiferaRx. Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks for the help!!

I guess there is Bifera (which you can get at Target, Walgreens etc.) and the prescription version, Bifera Rx?

I have been dealing with the same issues, and I just saw my doctor today for a check up.

Last month my doctor recommended Slow Fe. It's an over the counter iron supplement. I am also prone to constipation problems, but this caused me no problems at all! My ferritin level jumped from a 7 last month to a 29. It's working great for me and it's worth a mention to your doctor.

Good luck!

Most pills, and oils are constipating. Your best bet is to go dietary to get your extra iron.

dark green leafy veggies
red meat

I am sure a good google would help you find many others.

Amitiza is a great med, and helpful! If miralax and other interventions are not helping, give it a go, there isnt anything more miserable than being so backed up you become nauseous.

Look at places like Evitamin.com they have great supplies at great prices.

I hope you feel better.

I ditto the recommendation for SlowFe... It works and is easy to tolerate. Take it with Vit C for best results.

Non Constipating Iron

My doc suggested I take Ferretts IPS liquid iron. this product is truly non constipating and is by far the best iron supplement I have ever tried. It has brought up my iron levels and I haven't had to deal with any unpleasant side effects, no upset stomach and no constipation.

I get Ferretts IPS from my local pharmacy but I have also purchased on line from Amazon and from **
