Prayer Request

In the "I am Sad" thread, I mentioned soldier's killed on Thanksgiving Day. What a horrible day to lose a loved one.

Some of you may remember LaDonna (Earth), a Lakota/Dakota friend of mine who posted occasionally in the SSS at Braintalk. She's close with the family of one of the young men killed - his father belongs to the Standing Rock community.

I would appreciate prayers for this young man and the Standing Rock community. They already suffer from so much pain and loss in their lives.

Thanks. Here's a clip on the soldier....

Fort Berthold soldier killed in Afghanistan
Monday, November 27, 2006

Nathan Goodiron, a member of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota, was killed in firefight in Afghanistan on Thanksgiving Day.

Goodiron, 25, was a North Dakota National Guardsman. His cousin, C.J. O'Berry, was wounded during the attack but is apparently doing OK.

Goodiron, who was from Mandaree on the Fort Berthold Reservation, leaves behind a wife, a young son and stepchildren. "If people had problems, they could talk to him. He’d make them feel better," Elton Spotted Horse, a friend who grew up with Goodiron, told The Minot Daily News.

Goodiron was home on the reservation during his leave in August. He was honored at the tribe's Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Signature Event.

His Father is from Standing Rock and his Mother From Fort Berthold Reservation.

Thanks Cheri - I'll tell her. :)

We had a scare with her recently. Her blood pressure skyrocketed and docs found a suspicious spot on her brain. She's in real danger of having a stroke. With all the burden she carries, we've been trying to help keep her balanced. She's not allowed to take a day off from life, and she can't turn her back on people who need her. It would TRULY break my heart if I lost her. :(

I long for this madness to stop too. I wish every person would read the personal stories of the men/women we're losing over there, and take each one to heart. I wish they'd ask themselves if that person really deserved to die - and if surviving loved ones deserve to suffer. :(

Kathy

I hope you will also let LaDonna know that she is always welcome here :)

My prayers will also be lifted for her health, and that the burdens she carries will be lightened by others coming alongside to help her carry them.

Here's another one: Cpl Billy Farris, age 20, and he will be buried tomorrow. A friend of mine and his drum group will be performing at the ceremony. This young soldier was from the same reservation where my mother-in-law grew up.

I'd like to ask for prayers for this young man's family.

My son is now back in the States after deployment, and he'll be home for Christmas. However, he'll be deployed again next year - and THIS time he'll be going to Iraq.

I realize almost 3000 families have already lost loved ones to this war. I honestly don't know how they continue to survive. My son is my only child, and I'd be completely devastated if I have to sacrifice him to this war. :(

Chemar 12-11-2006 12:47 PM

oh Kathy!
my sympathies to the Ferris family and friends in their grief over Billy's death

and you dear Kathy....I cant even begin to imagine how you must be feeling at the thought of your son's deployment to Iraq.........I hope and pray that somehow by the time he is due to go...something may have changed and no more precious lives will be sacrificed in this war.:Sob:
