Scientists Identify Key Biological Mechanism in Multiple Sclerosis

Scientists at the Gladstone Institutes have defined for the first time a key underlying process implicated in multiple sclerosis (MS) — a disease that causes progressive and irreversible damage to nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This discovery offers new hope for the millions who suffer from this debilitating disease for which there is no cure.

This is very interesting.

Leaking of the blood brain barrier, is also a topic at PD forum quite a bit. There have been posts about this for a long time there. They often abbreviate it also, to BBB.

My first question though is why fibrinogen (which is a peptide)?
Other things too, but those were not looked at? There are alot of other peptides floating around in people. Leaking at the BBB is similar to leaky gut...and involves small pores called Zonulin channels. The Celiac community is very active about Zonulin therefore.

So this article may be of interest on this post too:

There are drugs in the pipeline now to close or open these channels.
At one time this venue was looked at for a possible oral insulin.

thanks for this. I go to the UCSF MS center for my MS care

Wow Kelly, thanks. It sounds like we may be getting closer to, at least stopping MS, if not curing.:)

I'd settle for stopping it, at this late date. I'd love to have back what I lost but, that is just not realistic:(
