Worms

My son who is 27 yrs. old called me to find some information on worms that can be in the human body. He said that he saw a worm about 8" long in the toilet after he went to the bathroom. I said "What?" He is freaking out and now I am freaking out. Has anyone heard of anything like this? He said that he has been having upper stomach pain. Thanks for your help, Doodle bug7

You know, the dangerous part of most parasites, are their eggs, which unfortunately, human eye cant see... Eggs is what infect people...

However, I understand in your message that the worm went out of his own body... right ?

In that case, as pabb already suggested, seek medical help as soon as possible.

Could it have possibly already been in the toilet before he used it? Is he having any sx like abdominal pain or cramps? I've heard of tape worms before but I didn't think they were that long. If there was some way he could have saved the worm and taken it to the doctor or hospital maybe they could test it to see what it is. I don't know....just thinking out loud. It would freak me out, too. Hope you get some answers soon.

It's highly possible that your son did see a worm in the toilet. The human body can be infested by several different types of worms and rather than go into too much detail, I've given you some links that give you lots of information.

Thank you for your help. No, he hasn't been out of the country. Actually he lives in Rhode Island. I'm going to call him today to see if he can get in to see a Doc. He said that he has no medical Insurance (many of us are in that predicument ) I would be camped out at the Doc's doorsteps.....regardless! I'm going to help him as best I can. I'll let you know.
