Swim question for newly diagnosed epileptic
My friend now has epilepsy for a few months now. Any advice for a newly diagnosed epileptic? Is swimming near a lifeguard safe enough is seizures are controlled or does one always need an extra swim buddy?

Hi, funnylegs!
I don't have epilepsy but did find this from the Epilepsy Foundation, if it's of any use to you: Water Safety and Seizures | Epilepsy Foundation This part of the article might answer your question though I'm not sure what they mean by "a long time" (how long?). Quote:

In my opinion a long time needs to be more than a couple of years.
But I honestly don't know. I know that with Derrick he will have a buddy in the pool with him, if he has had a seizure in the last two years. Only because its hard to know when they are going to have one again. Donna :grouphug: |
