vision problems/brain damage due to hydrocephalus

Hi, I was born with hydrocephalus 23 (soon to be 24) years ago as of Jan. 13th 2007). I had eye muscle surgery in 1998 to correct 1 eye that turned out. Sometime last year (don't remember exact date) it turned out again. Is this normal? Also I have brain damage due to my hydrocephalus. Was told vision problems could possibly be caused by the brain damage. Not sure though.

Hey, T. J. :)

Do you have regular checkups with your opthalmologist? If not, you should. Please call him right away. This is not normal hon', and it may mean you have increased ICP. Call your nsg, too.

Good luck...

LIZARD :)

Lizard,

Before I turned 18 6 (soon to be 7 in Jan. 13th 2007) years ago, I only see my opthalmologist (who is specialized in treating childhood eye conditions) every 2 years! The last time I was at my eye doctor I flinched bad when they tried to mesure my eye pressure! Never could get a reading from either eye! My eyes crossed again after having the muscles worked on in 1998. But my eyes are crossed again! I'm getting used to them being this way too! As for my vision, I ran into a wall last Sunday!

Hi T.J.

In addition to what Liz said,I would ask your doctor if it is a possibility that you could have depth-perception issues,in relation to the hydrocephalus..:(

Please keep us informed on how you are doing.

I don't have to ask! I must have forgot to include in my first message that yes, I do have depth perception issues. My brain only uses 1 eye at a time. And my left eye turns out at all times. I can only guess at something that I see in 3D using clues from my right eye that still sees distance well. When I used to have vision therepy, I would refuse to go down the stairs to the room as the stairs looked like a ramp and I could not judge them acuratly at all!
