I am new in town, and hope you will show me around.

I seriously got an email saying this exact thing today.

It spoke of just moving to my town from toronto and how exciting it is to be in a new town, but scary too. Would I be willing to show this person around town and help them see the sights?

huh?!

#1 I live waaaaay out in the boonies. There is no town to speak of, esp in the winter.

#2 there are not sights to see. The town dump? Town hall? perhaps the food bank?

#3 of all the people in town to pick, you pick the blind, lame girl?

Some emails are just too funny not to share. I deleted it as a phishing email in an attempt to give my computer a virus. HA!

Not fair or nice, but when other organizations contact me to ask me to ask my neighbors for contributions, I politely say no, got my own disease to contend with and it's not that. They must have big X's by my name, few call anymore. I burst into tears once with one of them and had to hand the phone to my teen daughter. She was pretty cool at it for a 14 year old.

I have NEVER heard of anything like this. My radar would immediately be up and I'd be so suspicious.

Who in the world sends these things?? Are they hoping you'll respond with your address and phone number? And you know what....somebody will and they'll become a victim.

With the exception of all the wonderful friends I've made here.....I have to say that I think we were all better off pre-internet.

They wanted me to respond to the email and "chat" and hoping I would be able to show them around town, and maybe fill them in on the wonderful things this part of the state has to offer.

REally bizzare. Its clearly a new type of scam and I am not falling for it. It came thru on my junk email account that I use for things like facebook, or social places on the internet. I guess if you were to let your defenses down for a stranger in town, then share your phone, or address and agree to go pick them up, and while you were gone, your house gets robbed! or it just introduces a virus onto your computer and ruins your hard drive.

Either way, im not falling for it, and I threw it away. Now I am running virus scans on my machine.

Don't people have anything else to entertain themselves with other than trying to make someone else's life miserable???

I lived 20 something years without the Internet OR a cell phone/pager/ipod/twitter whatever thingy/blackberry/etc. How on earth did I ever survive? :p

The "Russian Babes" (that is what I call them, as some leave names and they are mostly Slavic sounding) are all over emails now. I get them all the time wanting to chat. Definitely to be avoided!

I block them every time, as Yahoo gives that choice.

I did look it up, and its connected to a russian scam. They tell young men about a woman who is in a small town, and afraid and being abused, and wants to leave to come to america. Will you send her the money to help her get out? Then she sends photos of herself and descriptions and letters of gratitude. Before you know it, its several thousand dollars to get this young lady out of Russia and into America where she is dying to meet a decent man...

Cut to you standing at the airport with an armload of flowers and an empty pocket and no russian babe steps off the plane. The ticket was cashed in and your bank account is empty from all the wire transfers.

Thats exactly what I need in my life. a young russian babe. sheesh! her name is zeygxina (but you can call me Z) I deleted it without opening or touching any links in it and blocked her doman name.

Oh, my.... I figured.... as much.

Good that you looked further. When I see old terms like "show me around town"...etc I think foreign spam.

Those terms are in our old movies... like on TCM etc. (which I like to watch some daytimes! ;)

The slang is so dated, that it is really the tip off I think.
