Mood swings

Hi everybody,
Do you guys get serious mood swings all day? Like one hour I feel ok and like I can cope today and then an hour later I am so depressed I am having to talk myself out of suicide. I was more even until my doctor added clonazepam for REM sleep behavior disorder. I sleep mostly through the night now but when these mood problems hit I can't go take a nap and reset my brain like I used to do cause I cannot take naps now that I am sleeping through the night mostly. How do you guys cope with this? Things have been especially bad for me since I had a seizure a few weeks ago. I am having way more problems being able to concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes. Can't read, watch t.v, computer is hard. Can only do these things for very short periods. I am going to go crazy. I used to at least be able to nap, watch t.v, read, computer. Please help anyone. I am going to go cry for a while now. I am so frustrated.
Thanks for listening and caring.

Hi Brain patch

There are many of us here on NT. with what is called mood disorders. I was just dx's friday as bi-polar. I am 61 and f, and have been like this most of my life. I just didn't know what was wrong until I tolk my PCP about these horrible mood swings. You need to tell your PCP about this. It's OK to vent here, but try to seek help. I should have done it years ago. I wish you all the best. ginnie

Yes I get extreme mood swings on days like today when brain is fried.

Hang in. Even if u don't sleep a dark quiet rest can reset things. I did try that yesterday during an episode. Seemed to help some.

brain,

I would suggest trying to get off the Klonopin. Benzos like clonazepam (Klonopin) can be rough on the concussed brain. I was switched to Neurontin to help with sleep. It was much better and my days went much better.

Do you have a psychiatrist or neuro-psychiatrist to help you ? In my experienced opinion, Any psychotropic med should be prescribed by a specialist in psychiatry.

What are you trying to do each day ?

Me too Brain Patch! Sometimes they're not swings just plain constant bad! Today I'm so moody I'm down right mean but can't control it. When I no longer have the energy to think or process anything I also don't have the energy to be nice. Just too overloaded.

This is also the time I usually find I'm the most weepy. So I feel like crying and could use a hug but I'm being so nasty nobody wants to be around me let alone give me a hug! Kind of a double edged sword ;)

I hope you are seeing a psychiatrist that can help you through this. Wishing you a better day tomorrow...

CC

Thanks you guys

Thank you. It is comforting to know I am not alone and you guys understand. I am sorry you all are suffering this though. Here's a hug for you all

Mark, I find it helps to read and hurt my brain less to space lines like you do. I am going to do that now.

I did go lie down in a dark place and just rested and it did help. Thanks for that advise. I think I am just going to have to do that every day.

I have to take the clonazepam because it is the only med that helps with the REM sleep behavior disorder. That has to be kept under control. The neurologist told my pain dr to prescribe these. I have tried nerontin and it aggravates seizure and sleep disorder. I can't take any ani-depressants or muscle relaxants as it does the same and I have bad reaction.

I don't have a psych dr yet. I have an appt on the 25th for the neuropsychological exam so they may be able to help me with that. I was just diagnosed with this by neurologist. I was just diagnosed with chronic pain before and thought these other problems were from constant pain. Now I see that is not right. I do have pain but all this other stuff is from having 6 concussions. The last one being a total knockout in MVA.

Sorry for the meltdown. I am grateful to all of you for the support. Lots of love to you all. Cause you know love heals.:grouphug:

I am on Benzos before and after the accident but had to change from one to another....Benzos are well for various things besides anxiety and panic. They are good for muscle spasms, sleep, positive chilled thoughts...and yes my psychiatrist prescribed the changed benzo and have not had to use a ice pack since or have ANY MUSCLE SPASMS.We have to do enough of defending ourselves in life....somethings you just blow off with the bitter cold!:D
