Anesthetic for Surgery
I need to have surgery, gyn stuff., hystercopic removal of growth on uterus., D and C and Bartholin cyst removal. My gyn suggests a general anesthesia as I am overweight and she feels a local with a twilight sleep is not a good idea , I suggested a regional., she says to talk to the anesthesiologist, I spoke to my neuro , he felt a General would be fine., I am just so nervous., I have never had any chest muscle issues., but I am just nervous as I have not had surgery before., just orthoscopic of the knee.
Please help................I have to talk to the anesthesiologist first .........the hospital and nurse from the hospital will call me first. What should I ask., ???anything specific., what type of anesthetic has anyone had? Thanks. |
Hi Whirlwind,
Try not to worry - it'll make things harder for you. I've had general anesthetic 3 times since being diagnosed. Make sure you talk to the anesthesiologist first - he or she should put your mind at rest. If you have time before your surgery you should have a simple bloodtest done to see if you are pseudocholinesterase deficient - I am and I had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic once (but now they know to use a specific type of anaesthetic). Also, the anaesthesiologist will probably give you more reversal than usual to re-awaken your muscles. I'm sure some of the "boffins" will have even more encouraging words!! Good luck! ~Kathy |
I have been able to handle the Propofol and Fentanyl they usually give. What they do differently for me, however, is to use pediatric gas to intubate instead of a muscle relaxer. It works great. Vets usually use that because it wears off more quickly with fewer side effects.
If they are going to give you Morphine for pain, that is the real problem for MGers. I could only handle it for 24 hours. My breathing was moderately severe due to it. It got much better after I stopped it. I hope the surgery goes well. I'm sure a conversation with the anesthesiologist will help. It did for me. Annie |
