Pittsburgh Neuropathy Specialist
I am considering traveling to Pittsburgh Pa for care. My question is, does anyone have any recommendations for a neuropathy specialist there? I did go to the neuropathy association web page and did print off a list of names, but really I have no clue if those docs are decent or not. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Laurie |
Hi Laurie
I really do not have any advice on that matter, but I can tell you that I was traveling to all the wrong places over here in search of a neuro. Then I finally realised that within neurology there are sub-specialties,and there was only one neuro that treats and recognises SFPN people. So she was my third neuro, and the only one of her kind.
I would hate to see you traveling to see a neuro that can't really help to start with. I would ask them if they do SF testing, and see what they say. Are you planning any testing? |
Hi, You may not even have to travel to far to see a PN specialist, it may help if you mention what suburb you live in, sorry i can't help as i live in Australia but somebody here may have a clue to a recommend you a good PN specialist Neuro near to you hopefully.
good luck Brian |
Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I have been diagnosed with SFPN by my neuro. He is a general neurologist and although I do like him, I am now interested in see a doc who actually specializes in this. At this time we still do not really know what is causing it. I do have low B12 and am being treated for that. I do feel better than when it all started, but without the 3 pain meds I take I still would be in alot of pain. I live in central pa and my insurance will only cover docs going toward the pittsburgh side of the state. Thanks for any help.. Laurie |
That is a very sensible thing to do, unfortunately it does take a PN specialist to give you the best chance to find the culprit that's causing the damage to your small nerves.
I also had small fibre damage, i too was running on low b12 and i was found to be prediabetic, through a 3 hour Glucose Tolerance Test. I hope someone will post you soon a name of a good Pn specialist in your domain. good luck Brian :) |
