Interesting posts
I stumbled across this today searching for info on methylfolate and thought it was interesting. I was wondering what those here with much more knowledge and experience in this would have to say???? Poster MetalMX has taken a expensive test to help him with FM. His B12 was low as well. Apparently the test will tell things like your ability to turn b12 into it's methy form. It's stuff way over my head truthfully. :o

The MTHFR genetic error is getting more attention now.
You can have it tested: http://www.kimballgenetics.com/tests-mthfr.html Or you can get a homocysteine test to see if it is elevated in spite of taking folic acid. This might cost less. So far there are 25 specific polymorphisms of the MTHFR pathway. I This genetic failure is more common than previously thought. It used to be very inexpensive (about $5-6 for a 100 tabs) to just take methylfolate (like it is for methylcobalamin) until the greedy drug manufacturer holding the patent, Merck, decided it would make more money by withholding sale of it to vitamin makers, like Source Naturals. They wanted to FORCE people to get the far more expensive RX only drugs, Metanx and Cerefolin. Folinic acid is still OTC and will work in a similar way. Source Naturals makes it also. They substituted it when the supply was cut by Merck. Folinic acid has been RX for decades at 5mg tablets and called Leucovorin to treat folate loss during certain chemo treatments. It is a very common form of bioavailable folate. |

I think this is the right stuff and it's not that bad. http://www.iherb.com/Solgar-Folate-M...ets/13961?at=0 :) |
Yes, that is the methylfolate.
And it did not cost that much in the past. But so far it is not that high for a 3mos supply. You do understand, Marty, that you MUST take B12 with this? You must get your B12 levels UP! ??? You will take the B12, won't you? |

Yes I'm on 5mg's a day and will stay on that indefatigably. When I max out at the high end of the scale then I will cut back. I take my b12 at like 4am and then go back to sleep for 2 more hours to give myself the best possible change to absorb. :) My B12 amounts were 2003 319, 2004 like 389. Thanks mrsD you are awesome! |
