Can black mold cause pn
 

I lived in an aptartment for 5 years that had black mold . I did not see it because it was under the cabinets and in the water heater room also in both the bedroom closets hidden by a lot of clothes also are air conditioner leaked so bad all the time and they would come fix it and it would leak again , it gets really hot here so are air is on all the time well it dident dawn on me until my stepson came down and was staying in that room where i had fought with the office to fix the leaks right and not just cover up the mold . Well when they finally fixed it right i was very sick my gland where swollen and hard all the time and no fever also the stabbing and pain like i had a really bad flu , so when i found the mold in the bedroom the maintainance guy came over and said that if he cut it out the mold would just come back nextyear because the sprinklers are to close to the building ,thats when i started looking in the kichen under the cabinets and it was every where well long story short i have been sick since we lived there had a hysterectomy and my gallblader out also bladder surgery 3 years ago .well when the peaple in the office seen it they moved us right away to another apartment .i really dont know if it was the mold but i know that that whole wall was rotted and moldy,but when i told my doctor he said no then i went to the neuro and got tested and it came back neurapathy ALSO MY BIOPSIE ON BOTH MY PAROTID GLANDS CAME BACK CRONIC SIALADENITIS COULD THIS BE CAUSING MY FACE NP AND MY EYE PROBLEMS i told him to but he said no does anyone know sorry so longALSO MY

And while molds are visible in some spots? Testing [a very EXPENSIVE endeavor] results indicated that YES molds were present, but none of the TOXICS were at anywhere near levels to worry about. However? I wasn't overwhelmed with the company who did the testing, and I had to threaten calling their 'membership board' and the Better Business Bureau to get test results.
While There IS a possiibility of toxic mold in my own home? I believe more that I am simply one with a compromised immune system that doesn't get along with the environment of this building. The symptoms do not dissapate nor decrease if I am in a different place for even two weeks at a stretch, so I don't/can't use that as a measure. I suspect or believe, that once exposed to some toxins? It can create a systemic reaction. I believe others can speak more eloquently on this aspect than I could ever do.
Since Your rental office moved you [ideally at no cost, other than wear and tear on you?] They are admitting a degree of liability. However to sue or the like is VERY EXPENSIVE AND requires a lot of medical documentation [meaning all can see ALL of your medical records, etc.] and hassle. If it were me? I would ask the area Health Department to 'check the mold issue' and explain why. It can become a 'touchy' subject unless you've got another and a safer place to move to? It's a double edged sword in many ways and I wish you both luck and wisdom in this quarter!

Old post but this is still an ongoing issue.

The Drs that said no simply do not have enough information to make that statement. A better reply would have been "its possible but I do not know much about mold effects" if they did they would not have made those statements. Some avoid implicating mold because they fear sick building related lawsuites. They basically put their fear of lawyers above patient care.

The truth is certain molds + persons with certain genetics or diseases cause many issues that go beyond simply type one allergic reactions.

The person that advised a environmental physician is correct. They will know far more.

Some people can be around molds without ill effects they will assume everyone is like them. Some people can't handle a simple bee sting or eating shellfish. They end up in the hospital.

Some molds like a strain in Oregon have high fatality rates. So the notion that because molds are common in the environment means they can't harm is foolish thinking.

Most of the problem has to do with insurance companies not wanting to foot the bill.

There seems to be an agenda to downplay it.

Go to ** and look up Mystery Diagnosis, they have a very interesting case called "the women who gagged" They sell the episodes for 1.99 per. It shows a family of 4 living with mold but only one was sick. She ended up loosing pulmonary tissue because the first Doctors ignored it and treated the symptoms. They finally took lung samples and they found spores of all kinds of molds, it matched the house. Her husband and kids had no symtoms. Some people assume because they are the only one sick it can't be the home. It all depends on the person.

Another problem is very few allergists carry the proper mold kits. They only have them for common outdoor molds. They will end up testing you for a outdoor mold and none of the molds that maybe in the home.

As common as water and mold issues are you would think an allergist would have the kit.

The newer studies are starting to confirm what was always suspected, that the toxins do play a role. The reactions that are tested for are generally IgE, they do not test for any toxin levels. Symptoms related to them will not be found out. To say something can't be without first knowing what you are dealing with is just a statement made out of ignorance.

What to do. You need to filter the air, even if you move out. Mold exposure can make you hypersensitive. Hepa filters do a good job, without a hepa your lungs become the air filter.

Eye problems are generally irritant related, burning watering etc.

You can get a keratitis from the spores. Again most likely due to the irritant/toxin vs a type I allergic reaction.

Chronic Sialadenitis can be associated with an autoimmune disease called Sjogren's Syndrome, which is also associated with neuropathy. As far as if the mold could cause, I can't help with that.

We have a problem with molds here as well. I've always had dust mite allergies. Mold is apparently a new one for me. But I'm reacting to something and this is a very old building. The basement, such as it is, floods on a regular basis and often stays full of water for some time. My other half and I have been wondering about how this is affecting both of us. We have no choice at the moment but to live here. No jobs and no other place to go for now. We're working on it though.
