Non-fiction book to publish-

Is there anyone reading here that can publish my book,or point me to someone who can publish it? It is a true story, about my battle with Guillian-Barre syndrome, hospital abuse, etc.,and how I also had to watch my child battle cancer.I do not have money to get it published myself, but do not want to give most of the profits to a company, as it is my story, about my life, and the only money I will ever be able to make! If I had my own reality show, like Kate Gosselin, then to get a book published would be no problem, but I am just a broke, middle aged woman, from Saskatchewan, with a true story, never boring, book that I have written.Any suggestions?

Many options

Hi Mary,

Self-publishing is an option and I have friends who have done that.

However, before you go that route, why not try to publish it conventionally? Publishing houses rarely accept unsolicited manuscripts, so your first job is to try and interest an agent who handles non-fiction.

If you're interested, there are internet sites that list LEGITIMATE agents. While they may require that you pay for postage and other small administrative expenses, real agents do not charge a reading fee.

Another alternative is to enter contests for unpublished manuscripts.

In all the above matters, the Writers' Federation of Saskatchewan webpage would be an excellent place to start your journey toward being a published author.

Good Luck & Don't Give Up!

Please look up Accentuate Writers forum. The person who runs it is a published writer (many members there are, too) and always offers new links for diverse markets - surely something for you. If you don't see one, just ask.

Everyone there is super helpful. It's not one of those back-biting, competetive kind of writer's forums, it's a lot like here.

Also invest in Writer's Digest Markets books. For under $30 each, they are filled with contacts and useful tips.

One other route - I've thrown this around myself - think about publishing for Kindle, if you decide to self-publish. Last I looked, it was free to put your book out, a lot cheaper for people to purchase ($10, roughly, compared to $15 and UP for other self-pub books) you make money on each one sold and a lot fewer headaches than most kinds of self pubs.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.

so how's it going?

People think writing is hard. It's nothing compared to the work you have to do after that, to get published.

:D
