Need help in connecting Portable DVD player to my tv
 

Hi all.

I did this YEARS AGO. I had all the peripherals and connected it my living room tv and I was able to play dvds and watch on my tv. SO I KNOW I DID THIS.

Well, I just took out the portable Audiovox DVD player and decided to play a dvd. Played just fine.

I then said "why don't I just connect this little gizmo to my bigger tv (like I did years ago), and watch it on the tv.

Well, I couldn't find the thingees that plug into both the side (or back) of the portable dvd player and the other side would go into the tv.

I know all about those red white and yellow things. I have them. One side would not fit into the ports on the dvd player.

So I went to the video store and the guy told me what to get.

I did.

I made a video (it didn't work, (I mean what he told me to buy).

So here's my video EXPLAINING EVERYTHING I'VE DONE.

Can you please look at the video, look at my connections and tell me if I need to get other connection thingees, if I did it wrong???

What kind of TV do you have?

when the kids play the X box or if we want to watch a video from the DVD/VHS recorder on our Toshiba flat screen we have to change the input settings on the TV.

{ for ours there is a button on the remote called "input"
we press it and can select vid 1 , vid 2 , antenna, cable ect.}

on the older tvs we just changed to channel 3 or 4 I think??
it's been awhile so not 100% sure on it.

check your tv settings and see if there is anything like input or video 1 and try that to see if it plays then

Basically you need to set the TV to "look" for the other component and not the usual cable or antenna to get the video to play.

That's the first thing I did.

I have Video 1, Video 2, and Line 1.

It didn't work.

Any other suggestions?
what about the two ports in the back of the player. One says video, one says audio.

do they mean anything?

P.S. the tv I tried this on is in the living room. It's a Sony, with the three ports , red, yellow and white.

The one i want to use it on has two ports, yellow and white. One says video and one says audio.

I just might try it now (On the actual tv I want to use it on).

you can narrow down the search by choosing from the drop down menus

Without seeing both TV & player & all connection areas I'm at a loss with what to suggest.

I usually just keep trying different connections & settings and searching for info /images of how to connect it online too, and somewhere along the line I end up figuring it out.


the player does have power and makes sounds like it is trying to play correct?

Jo, my portable dvd player plays just fine.

I just want to watch a dvd on MY TV. The screen is much bigger than my 7 inch dvd portable thing.

I did figure something out though. (I tried to hook it up in my bedroom where I want to watch future dvds), NOTHING worked.

I then went to the Audiovox site and looked at the diagram and saw that I need two mini plugs that will go into the back of the dvd player, and the other two will go into the front of my tv. This particular tv has two ports, not three, like other tvs.

So I went to Radio Shack.

The guy (Herbie), says to me "Go and bring in your portable dvd player and we'll get you the right connections".

I then said "Oh, we'll do a MacGuyver". And he laughed and said

EXACTLY!!

So we shall see.

I'll definitely update you if I ever get this thing to work.

If I can't, well I can always use my computer to watch a dvd. or my little audiovox portable dvd player. It works perfectly by itself, I just WANT TO BE ABLE TO HOOK IT UP TO MY TV.
