Recipe for those with dry rashy skin
I have had psoriasis and for years I have used this home lotion to control it. The prescription lotion that I used to get was $65 a tube and didn't work. My cousin's dermatologist gave her this recipe when all else failed with her. It makes A LOT, but I use a lot, up 5 times or more a day.
30oz of baby lotion 13oz of Vaseline 8oz Fruit of the Earth Vitamin E w/ Cocoa Butter ( it's very important to use this brand) Mix with a mixer until smooth and creamy. Place in containers ( I used left over prescription bottles, Vaseline container and the cocoa butter containers) This time that I made it I used the Bedtime Baby Lotion and it is very soothing. I hope this helps those who have the scaly rash or any other skin roughness. Have a good night, Cindi |
I forgot to say that I used the Equate of lotion from Wal-mart this time and it seems to absorb better. I also used 4oz of A&D ointment and it makes it even more creamy.:)

My husband gets good results with Aquaphor.
We buy it by the pound at WalMart. Aquaphor is a hydrophilic ointment made from vaseline. It is often a vehicle for compounded ointments. He used Dovenex cream for a few months, for one severe area, and that worked too. But he doesn't need that if he keeps up with the Aquaphor instead. |
I tried the Aquaphor, Mrs. D, and it worked like a charm! I have dozens of tubes of creams and ointments that are half used (if even that) because they didn't work.
I was hoping they made it in a cream form but all I could find was the ointment. It worked, though, so I'm not complaining! :) |
Hi Girls,
Thanks for this info. I started getting the dry rashy skin on my leg last winter. My Dr. gave me a script and it did nothing nor did anything I used over the counter. I will be buying some of this to try. They just started on my legs again a few weeks ago.

My husband's dermatologist uses Aquaphor for all her psoriasis patients. She says it works well most of the time, if the placques on the skin have not advanced too far.
Unlike vaseline, it is not as greasy. But it is not available in a cream. Eucerin is made in a similar way, and has a cream if some want to try that. This site gives the ingredients in Aquaphor: http://www.77canadapharmacy.com/Aquaphor.php Eucerin has many formulas.... here is the Calming cream. http://www.drugstore.com/products/pr...41&catid=10401 I am kind of partial to A and D ointment myself. (very healing for hemorrhoids, or fissures, for example). But it may be too greasy for the body for some. |
Thanks to EVERYONE who wrote, really!
It seems I got bitten by about at leas by a hundred little black spider bites. (I caught the little basterd, at least one, and it was about less than half inch by half inch. Black.) So, I mean to say, there was only one, that bit me a hunert times! Ugh! OK. A trail down or up my right calf. ( I haven't yet got the photos off my camera.} My Wonderful Dr. has given me a steroid, ya know pills, 7 down to two..... whatever my memory says.... and I seemed to heal up. Then, a few days later, some hives seemed to return, and bump up. So Today, he wanted me to see a Dermatologist! Agh! (Yes, He is Correct!) So, I went to the drug store, and I have a 'script for Allegra, so's I can sleep, wit my CPAP, yea? Took that. I got more 1% Hydrocortisone Cream, plus, the same that was Aveeno. Works good. So, I'm prayin' that they takes care of it.... I do NOT want to go to a dermatologist.. Yet, I have another issue "skin tags", that I need to see one about. So, It's all good. I just don't want to do it on an "EMERGENCY" Basis. You dig? Thanks If any of Ya'll have any thoughts...... I'd appreciate them..... Pete ASB |

Spiders don't typically bite you hundreds of times. It might just be a coincidence you found the spider, who may have been looking for other insects near you. A spider injects venom under the skin, and this causes serious effects in most people.
This venom will cause tissue necrosis, a black center to the bite and very poor healing rates. Spider bites are not as common as people think. Collections of bites, could be bed bugs, or fleas, or chiggers (if you have been outside.). Itching and hives may indicate scabies as well. If you have been to a beach/sand...there are sand fleas and also swimmer's itch. My son has had swimmer's itch a couple of times and was pretty miserable. Swimmer's itch is a larva of a snail...and is passed into the water by ducks. http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/5478953/ There is currently a huge epidemic of bed bugs in the US. This is a major problem in hotels and motels now. Even the 5 star ones. This is a link to what bed bug bites look like: http://hotels.about.com/od/hotelsecr.../Bedbug-Bites/ These bugs can get in your luggage and come home with you. Bed bugs hide during the day, and are hard to find. |
Putting the A&D ointment in the lotion recipe is doing great for me. I have been using different types of lotions in the recipe. because I don't want to smell like baby lotion all the time. I really like the lavender bedtime lotion. It's very soothing. I have psoriasis on my scalp and this recipe has worked great as a deep conditioner.:)
