Cold hands and neuropathy
I have been experiencing a lot of cold in both hands these last couple of weeks. A few months ago I was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy. Does anyone know if cold hands (or feet) are connected to neuropathy? If they are, what is the cause?
Thanks |
My cold hands and feet are due to my "inherited" peripheral neuropathy called CMT. Nothing much can be done to keep them warm. It's the nerves for us.

Cold hands can be a circulation problem. This is called Raynaud's syndrome. There are many many causes of this.
I've had PN in my hands since I was about 30 yrs old. I never had cold hands from it. I had numbness, and weakness (at its worst), but never cold. In the last 2 yrs or so as I have passed 60...I am getting cold hands and feet finally. In fact I am experimenting with some new supplements to increase blood flow (and hopefully reduce my blood pressure, naturally). This is the Doctor who I have researched: http://www.drignarro.com/ I am doing the l-citrulline protocol and have noticed already my feet are no longer cold! We'll see how it goes, this winter, however! There are topical creams now with l-arginine in them, to increase blood flow too. You might look into those as well. |
Over 60, wow....... your font doesnt look a day over 39!

LOLOLOL.... yes... GAD, I am not happy getting so old now! But it has given me perspective, and some more compassion, as if I needed more of that!:p |
It could be a circulation problem - if it is Reynauds, you would be getting discolouration of your hands (red, white, purple, blue). Some people just have naturally cold hands with no underlying pathology. I have reynauds, but it is part of my lupus, not my PN.

The hematologist has just this week told me that he is stopping the steroids, and chemo this month, and will just administer the Rituxan "as needed". We'll see how that works. I surely hope that he can drive the IgMs back down into the 300 to 400 range where they belong. We'll see. Thoughts, and prayers for all PN sufferers. |

Iodoral could warm you up
"My wife and I both take the Iodoral each day, and we feel warmer all over. I initially noticed it most in my hands and feet, as those were usually the coldest."
http://www.amazon.com/review/RONKRIC...wasThisHelpful I've read other reviews of this product and the opposite complaint has been leveled. Some people get colder. I have a theory for this. Iodoral increases iodine. Iodine deficiency can cause you to sweat less (20% of iodine in the human body is in sweat glands). But it's not just the sweat you notice; it's also the subtle moisture you take for granted and may never notice. So when iodine-deficient people are "restocking" using something like Iodoral, the moisture starts returning, and that has a cooling effect. So if the person already has a low core temperature and then new moisture/sweat, they feel much colder. Iodine deficiency also can lower the core temperature. The question is: During the new use of Iodoral, do both the core temperature rise and the sweat glands increase their functionality at the same time? Perfect synchronicity is unlikely. If one lags, for whatever reason, using Iodoral could make you feel either warmer or cooler. I read one online comment where the user stuck with the product after feeling cooler at first and now never has any temperature issues. |
