Numbness

My hands feel as though they are numb, but today at the docs office, he used a sharp pin and I was able to feel it even though they feel numb to me.

Is this common and has anyone else experienced it?

Thanks all for any comments

Numb R hand and foot

My R hand and foot feel numb too me, but if I hit or injure one or the other, I feel that. I have never had a good Dx. I have had 3 carpel tunnel surgeries on the hand, with no positive results to speak of. I guess carpel tunnel is just an easy Dx! Do you have a Dx for the numbness in your hands? billie

billie, I've been diagnosed with peripheral polyneuropathy.

hi there

did you feel the pin as sharp, or just as a poke? In some areas I can't even a feel a dull poke, in other areas I can feel the pin poke but it does not feel sharp. So, you can have reduced sensation if you feel a dull poke rather than a sharp prick so to speak.

There are lots of degrees of sensation loss. With my feet, I can get a stone in my shoe and not even feel it which is a problem, because it can embed in my foot and cause problems. So, I have to check my feet often.

It's good that you could feel the pin, makes life much easier.

cheers

Raglet, it was very sharp and I could feel it. I was checked last week and it was a dull prick and I couldn't feel it in some places. I guess this stuff effects diferent nerves .

Thanks for the reply

Pricks?

Could it also be how deeply you are being pricked? I feel nothing on my skin at all, or shots, things like that, but a deep sharp stab I will sometimes feel depending on where on my body.... maybe less damage in that area or where the nerves are located?

I have a friend with this same type of issue. His feet are numb all the time, he says they are stiff too. Yet, if he steps on a tiny pebble when barefoot, or in his socks, he knows it. It's funny how our nerves work and don't work. It's definitely a learning curve that is very hard to get used to. My hands and fingers do not feel numb, yet I will get cuts on them that I never felt happen...it's like mine are the opposite.
