Hypnotherapy vs Morphine

I feel like I just came from the ER on Morphine. Nope, no morphine. It was a hypnotherapy educational experience with Charles D. Leviton, EdD & Patti Leviton MA tonight. "MAKING PEACE WITH YOUR PAIN".

I'm not kidding...., Every nerve, muscle is like jello. Everything inside me is so relaxed. Master P video taped the session. You can visit their website @ synergyseminars.com. I am listening to the their CD 10 x a day if thats what it takes.

Just gotta find what works for you after 10 years of TOS pain.

I Googled this. http://www.synergyseminars.com/ Interesting. I've heard of this type of thing but not tried anything like this yet. How long have you been into this program? How is it working for you?

Thanks for the info

I started hypnotherapy maybe 5 years ago for the pain. Then dx'd with cancer in 2005 & never stopped. I feel so much better spending my time & $$ on hypnotherapy than being drugged out of control to ease the pain till I throw up.

what i know

1. some people are hard to hypnotize, and so they use drugs to make it happen. i have never tried the drugs, but the 1st time i tried hypnotherapy they could not get me under. i was a minor at the time and mom was reluctant to use drugs.

2. hypnotherapists try to pick your brain to use something that will work. for example, when i sleepwalk, i told mine i do not put my glasses on. the therapist tried to use this to have me gently wake up if i got out of bed and did not have my glasses on. the result was that i started to sleepwalk with my glasses on! this was an unexpected result.

3. a famous psychotherapist (i can't remember her name) did a demo at my college, which i attended. the girl she picked (a friend) had a very bad experience from this. she was slightly overweight. under hypnosis she got a suggestion she was big and became terrified she would crush people in the room (like alice in wonderland), and after coming out of it she was still terrified.

i just wanted to share my experiences. just because drugs are not used does not mean it is basically harmless. be sure you know the hypnotist, and ask about the risks.

A "certified" hypnotherapist uses guided imagery for medical purposes. This means YOU are creating your own path, your own relaxation, your own breathing pattern, your own wellness by power of suggestion. There may be 25 people in the room at a session & each person will relate to specific relating to their own condition or as a one on one session working on speciifics of pain locations, energy, calmness, strength....

This is not subjective in NO way carnival hypnotherapy. There are many MD's that come to educate themselves & already use on their patients. My Neuro highly recommends using the power of the mind along with western medicine. It got me thru cancer while suffering with TOS pain. It keeps me out of the ER on morphine & overly medicated on short acting pain meds. They just take off the edge then u end up feeling crappy you have ingested so much.

I cannot imagine how I would have gotten through the last 4 years.

CERTIFIED hypnotherapists do not use drugs. If u are using drugs for guided imagery you are defeating the purpose of your own mind creating the image of relaxation or the specific area of pain.

I appreciate u bringing this up to clarify the difference.

1960's & 1970's

cyndy

thank u too for clarifying.

the drugs were offered in the 1960's. i don't know for sure (i was about 9 yrs old) but i think the hypnotist was licenced.

the demo - this was 1974. our dorm had various visiting professors and they each gave interesting talks. we had a famous physicist too. in the psychologist's obituary on the internet i read some interesting things. let's just say her methods were revolutionary and probably controversial too, since she more or less pioneered some of this stuff. every science in it's infancy has mistakes, so i am not blaming her.

I too tried hypnotism. Unfortunatley, it does not work for me. I went to a medical therapist. They were solo sessions. I just could not succumb to the suggestions. I wish it had worked. Some people get such great results.
