Pads on balls of feet?

Does anyone have "swollen pads" on the balls of their feet? They are all in my head (can't feel with hands, feet feel normal:confused:) but they feel huge!

I often feel like there is "something" on the balls of my feet, particularly my left foot. There is absolutely nothing there, but it sure feels like there is. Drives me crazy.

That doesn't really help you I guess, but at least now you know you're not the only one.

I have broken sesamoid bones in both feet.

If you have damage to these small bones in the ball of the foot, you may have pain there, swelling, or flares of pain (depending on type of shoes worn or activities that stress them).

You can only get evaluated for this with x-rays, and good podiatrist advice. They may complicate PN symptoms and cause confusion. PN people can also have neuromas in the feet, spurs, arthritis, etc. So a good podiatrist is a good idea to bring all information to light. Don't assume everything is PN...it may be a combination of factors causing pain in the feet.

Did they do anything for your broken bones, mrsD?

In my case, that isn't the problem, at least as far as I know. X-rays show nothing, but I still feel that darned "something" there. And it's not Morton's Neuroma (at least I don't react when the doctor presses "the magic spot"). Are there other types of neuromas that could cause this? Morton's is the only one I've heard of.

When I complained to a podiatrist about feeling "the giant marble" in the ball of my foot, she just said "oh, that's probably just your bone pressing on the floor" and didn't offer any remedy for it.

I also have spurs on my big toes under the nail. From years of standing at work. I have spurs on my heels too, which at one time were very painful, but they have healed up for now.
I buy wide shoes now, a little larger, and put in those gel inserts.
I cannot wear fancy women's things anymore however. My only dress shoe is the black Arcopedicos.

The podiatrist I have says that when the bones that are broken are removed, the joint then becomes lax, and bunions then form.
So if I can live with it, I should do so. I don't like surgery anyway!

So I live conservatively, don't walk on the rocks anymore on vacation, choose shoes properly, etc. My heel spurs did quiet down, and it did take a couple of years but they did, and surgery was not necessary for them.

I have had one steroid shot in my left foot in the ball there, when I was having a major flare. And I use Salonpas patches if they seem bad in the night. And I have retired from my stressful job.

It is not unusual for me to buy Men's shoes, because the toe box is wider than a women's wide. I can try on many styles to get what I need some days.

These new memory foam slip ons from Dr. Scholl's have been really good to the sesamoids!

This happens to me quite often, especially after I've been walking or standing for a long time. They also burn like hot coals, but are cool to the touch.
Look & feel normal, but hurt like He11 !!

Yes! I do! It's a very weird feeling isn't it? Not all the time but there none the less. They don't look swollen but during an episode they sure feel that way.

The weather changes that go hand in hand with the changing seasons kills me, pain-wise. :(

If I rest my bare foot on something, like the desk chair pedestal, the sensory impression of that remains in my foot for up to an hour and I feel like I am walking on some object painlessly imbedded in my foot. It is nuts. The other problem is the falling sleep sensation, which has caught me off guard. I stand up only to find I have nothing to stand on and it goes all the way to my hip. After several minutes (seems like hours), maybe 10 minutes, sensation is back and I can walk, otherwise it is like lugging a dead limb, and I have to lean on something. Usually, I stand on the good leg and wiggle until it goes away. Needless to say, I do not stay in any one position long, and it stinks because I have hypotension and get woozy standing for very long.

PN has lots of causes and lots of tricks.

foot palms

The inside of your foot is inflamed all the time. When you step on a hard surface tne bones in your foot press against the inflamed meat in your foot.

There is no mylein cover on your nerves from the Neuropathy. The nerves are highly sensitive to any touch. When you walk it feels like your walking on stones.

I hope this helps.

George
