Elavil and ATN Pain

i have atypical face pain and started out on 25mg Elavil (amitriptyline). Over the weeks, the pain doc increased the dose to 100mg.
I also took 1800 mg of Gabapentin which didnt do anything.

does anyone with atypical face pain only take elavil?? i always thought it has to be a combination of at least 2 drugs.

what do you take for ATN?

thank you

Hi BW! I see you have not had any relpies to your posting yet. I have ATN and do take Elavil along with Lyrica, and Tramadol for break-through pain..My pain is constant and I need something to help me sleep, so my DR. suggested Elavil, she also started me on Lyrica...I took Neurontin when this first started along with Elavil and stopped after they stopped working for me.

I have been on different meds over the 7 yr period I have had this but I seem to be doing okay on this combination.

Hi- I'm new here but wanted to share some hopefully, helpful information.
My daughter was diagnoised with ATN and we did the MVD and it didn't work.

Neuratin, Lyrica, etc....you can only take so much and then you become a zombie and it's really a trade off. My daughter was taking Lyrica and Lymictal and with some help from a member of another board the Lyrica and Lymictal where working against each other so we stopped the Lymictal.

After all my daughter went through we came to find out that she has Cervical Myofascial Pain and Mastictory Myofascial pain. Very interesting to say the least. Now she is off all TN meds and is only taking Elavil and Tizanadine at night, and 10 mils of baclofen during the day- working like a charm.

ATN is often misdiagnoised as is TN. Here a link to check your symptoms and some information to read.

OK- so I can't post a link because I only have 6 posts....google Namptpt

It's a great tool and really was the first that I have ever seen that describes my daughters pain to a tee.

My daughter is taking 50 mgs of Elavil per day- at night only.

Here's another link: google "round earth head pain" and click on the first link.

Be sure to read because you would be totally surprised at "referred pain" from your shoulder, neck, SCM's, etc.

Hope you feel better soon.

I take 1500 mg of Neurontin but it doesn t help to easy the pain between the lip and the nose which makes talking very hard; The muscles tighten up and I feel pain in every syllable. ATN people are not good candidate for surgery, so I am still looking for help. I take Wellbutrin as an AD. Good luck and hugs and share if you find help. Best from Buffy.
