Pro-Biotics or Pre-Biotics? What do they mean?
The more I read about the two, the more confused I get! Mrs D and others? Can you help?
My immune issues are now trying to affect my intestinal tract and I want to be as pro-active as possible to avoid this issue. Any clarity on this stuff would sure be helpful! Thanks ahead of time! - j |
Here is a good explanation about Pre-biotics:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prebiotic_%28nutrition%29 I have noticed the premium pet foods now advertising Pre-Biotic ingredients on TV (Eukanuba) Inulin is added to some foods. You'd have to read the labels to find it. It is in Stonyfield yogurts for example. http://www.stonyfield.com/AboutUs/Co...Lane-00-01.cfm Probiotics are actual organisms which are supplied by capsule or food to colonize the bowel. There are just jillions of products in this category. I prefer to get mine in yogurt. Probiotics are handy after a course of antibiotics. Almost all antibiotics upset the bowel flora. Many of the yogurts now are specializing in adding specific organisms... Dannon Immune and Activia are examples. |
