Message to the moderators

It seems that at least once a week, someone comes on here asking for advice. Myself, Mark, Vinnie, Drsmom (sp?) and others are always more than willing to offer them advice. However, it seems that we offer the same advice every time to these people. Instead of having to type these recommendations in every time, is there anyway we can get a page set up on neurotalk that has these recommendations listed so we can just refer people to this list?
Maybe a disclaimer can be inserted that states these are just opinions of the members and don't necessarily reflect the opinions of the moderators, or something similar so that nuerotalk can be released from liability?

Just a thought...

I just went to this link in your stickies today:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread19462.html

You could add your posts to this pre-existing one. Then keep a copy on your computer of the link, and link it to newbies as they come on.

This is a good idea, and I have done this myself. Over the past 10 yrs on the forums I find myself saying the same things over and over.

Just a note,
I notice on this particular list, TBI,
that some folks come, ask a question, get a dozen responses, and never return.

I suppose it goes with this injury. Perhaps these folks don't even remember that they asked for help, and where...

Thanks MrsD!

Pete

Helping is just that --- helping. All sorts of people come here.

Some choose to stay, and some move on. That is the nature of the internet. Finding ways to do this, that fit in with your needs, is a valid task.

I or other members on the moderation team, are here to help you with any concerns.

mhr4, you are welcome to start a new thread and call it TBI/PCS 101 or anything you feel would be a good title and then post your info

we can then sticky it to the top of the forum for you

that way it will keep the useful websites sticky separate and rather have one that just contains helpful info, and you can then point newbies to it by giving the link

and yes, Pete, as mrsD has explained, there are many reasons why people may decide not to post again, but very often they may still be here reading...so we just keep helping...even if they never return, the info is most likely to help someone passing thru
We will never fully understand the wide impact that forums like this have on people's lives...so we just keep on keeping on in the hope that many will find support and info when they need it

Although this sounds like a good idea, I may have even mentioned something like it in the past, a personal response is still valuable. Like the recent post that ended with "Nobody understand what we go through."

When they see someone dedicate their time and post a specific reply to them, they often FINALLY get the sense that someone is listening.

This has great value.

So, I think we need to blend the two systems. Continue to post responses but also point them to 'sticky's and other links, like www.tbiguide.com.

I think we do need to try to not overwhelm them with all of the latest articles or treatments. Most are just trying to understand how to get through today.

Helping them understand their symptoms or test results or 'non'-diagnosis is a great service to many. The lurkers also benefit. We might want to encourage them to use the "Thanks for this" reply so we can see that they got the response.

I need to remember the THANKS button myself.

yes, I would hope that having a sticky thread to point people to helpful info would never replace giving personal responses, but rather just be an addition for the extra info they could follow up on if interested

Good thoughts on this thread.
