Weekend Check in Thread: Sunday, October 18, 2009

Hi,

Saturday was a Hindu holiday (Diwali (Festival of Lights).
I know this because hubby went to a little party at the house of a friend from his yoga class.

Tonight we have what feels like strange weather. The high temperature on Friday was 94. The high temperature on Sunday will be 75 -- almost a 20 degree drop in temp.
I wonder if people can feel a change in the air like that.

Around midnight, we had a helicopter flying above us for 10 to 15 minutes with a search light. Something was going on a few blocks from me but I obviously was not going to go ask the cops what was going on. Thankfully, the helicopter stopped.

I am feeling lost and depressed.
I'm frightened.
I need to find ways to be ok.

M.

Dear Mari

I am starting to wonder if you are actually having a Major Depressive Episode.

It is quite possible that all the stressors you dealt with in the summer finally precipitated Major Depression. Having the stroke, but also the move, especially, and your parents visiting. Plus, the coincident timing of all these things adds another dimension of difficulty in coping.

Remember that Depression can present different ways, and, besides the lack of energy and sadness you are experiencing, your difficulty with focus / concentration and memory issues could well be a symptom of Depression. I don't know what other symptoms you might have, like changes in your appetite or sleep, apathy, anhedonia, lack of motivation, ...?

When do you see your pdoc next? It seems your last visit was dedicated to the neuro results from the hospital. I think it would be good to see him to review your emotional status. Would it be possible to see your pdoc again, very soon, to do this? He might be able to help.

((( hugs )))

depression

Yeah,
I'm depressed and was depressed before the move but the move made it worse.

I cried.
I tried to talk to hubby.
I cried.
Then I called my sis to tell her to talk to him.
He doesn't know what to do.

Sis told him to vacuum and do some other things /chores.
Then he and I did yoga together in living room. Yoga helped.
(That was the first time in many months that I have done yoga. I have asked him to do a few DVD sessions with me.)

I have a planned appt with my internist on Tuesday.
I'll talk to her.

Hi Mari,

You are right. 17th was Diwali - in some parts of India it is also the beginning of a new year.
Mythologically it celebrates the victory of good over evil, and traditionally lamps are lit and fireworks burst.

I am not a believer, but I enjoy lighting lamps.
All of India is lit up that night.
Even the poorest light whatever they can afford - unfortunately not very much.

The government is clamping down on crackers over the past few years - pollution, and to put a stop to the child labour mostly used in their production.
It should have been done many years ago, and the restrictions are still not adequately enforced, but an awareness has been created.
But it is a festive night and the vibes are all positive.

This time because of the new painkiller I am on I managed to light a few lamps myself. The rest were done by the others.
It felt good

I am glad that your hubby did yoga with you....maybe you can do it on a regular basis. maybe it is time to have hubby come in to a therapy session with you again like before....
This sounds so hard on you.
I really wish it were easier.
