Could Pineal Cyst Be Causing All My Problems?

I am a 29 year old mother of two, who was in relatively good health up until I had my 2nd child. I never could seem to get enough rest, which everyone credited to a new baby.

But once he was sleeping through the night and was 7 months old I was still very tired all the time. I am also suffering a feeling of not being very quick witted. I am at a loss for words all the time, I can't name everyday objects when having a conversation, and forget how to get home or suddenly forget where I am and what I am doing there.

I am also having constant headaches and pressure behind my right eye.

I went to my PCP and they told me that it was because I was a new mom and stressed. I tried to listen to what they said but it didn't get any better and I went to see a neurologist. They did an MRI and said that they had an incidental finding of a pineal cyst. The cyst is 14mm x 10mm x 8mm. The neurologist told me that it couldn't be causing my problems and said that I probably had epilipsy.

They did an EEG on me and didn't find anything, which she said didn't really mean anything. So now I am scheduled to have an ambulatory EEG done this Thursday. I am also scheduled to have another MRI tomorrow to see if the cyst has grown or changed...

My questions are: Could the cyst really be causing my symptoms? (I have more symptoms which I can write- This post is already long so I didn't want people to not read it.)

Can anyone here take a look at my MRI and make any observations about it?

Can anyone recommend a neurosurgeon or neurologist in the Rochester, NY or Buffalo NY area??

Also- is there a way to test the levels of melatonin in your body at any given time??

Thank You

sharon

Welcome to NeuroTalk Sharon!

I'm so sorry for the symptoms you're having and I hope it will be something treatable so you can get back to feeling energetic and doing all that goes along with motherhood.

I don't know anything about what you mentioned but I hope that if it is this, that your medical team can take care of you and you'll feel better soon.

There are lots of very nice people on this forum and I'm hoping that someone with knowledge of this will be along to offer you some tips. Take care.

Google symtomatic pineal cyst - one that is that large can and may cause symptoms and may also cause hormonal issues that will interfere with sleep (that is what the pineal cyst does).
It can also effect vision - it is near the optic nerve. See a neuro-opthmologist. That doctor may be able to guide you to others that can help you.

Hi Sharon,

i read your story on another forum but couldn't comment as the post was closed and tried to send you a private message but it wouldn't allow me to......i'm not a stalker i promise. I was so overwhelmed when i read you story as it is IDENTICAL to mine! I actually thought for a moment that i had written it and forgotten it was so identical.

I too suffer with pain that is in my right eye, memory loss (complete moments where i have spent 8 hours with a client and 24 hours later i've forgotten, and can't remember what they look like! I've too forget where i'm driving to or why and i've missed my own driveway on a number of occasions. I couldn't remember my house number the other day! WTF. I've given up on all maths, just can't seem put together "simple" maths equations any more unless i have piece of paper or a calculator. Its sooooo embarrassing! I was always rather reasonable at maths as well.

I also loose words during talking and when writing things I put the wrong letters in the wrong spot. Even though my head knows how to spell the words (i can hear myself saying them) but by the time is translates to my hands its all back to front.

My current neurologist says that the pineal cyst is nothing and none of my symptoms are connected. He is sending me for a neuro exam (like a dementia test) to find out how much i am comprehending.

I know in my heart that it is all connected to this darn cyst. But with limited doctors willing to stand up and listen to all of these people that have the same sort of symptoms then it makes it hard to get noticed. I am truly frightened that i will be driving one day and have a seizure and kill my family!

I have read many boards about this cyst and its symptoms but you are the first person that has particularly mentioned about the pain in the right eye. Our cysts are of similar size as well (mine is slightly smaller).

I find that my pain is worse during my menstrual cycle and when i ovulate. But I have a constant headache all the time.

I don't know if you are still reading this board but I would love to hear from you and find out where you are and if you had any luck with treatment or if you are still living with your symptoms.

Kind regards
Jodie

hi, I am reading with interest that pineal cysts can be related to underlying atuto-immune disease. What are your other symptoms? Maybe someone on here can direct you to the right area.
