Well maybe I'm in luck. I take 80 mg Lisinopril daily. Along with 100 mg toprol for my blood pressure.

Maybe that's why you can still walk and work every day, Tom..

The person I know that took interferon alfa-n3 (and got him out of chair from ms) also told me about a blood press med and he started taking it 1 month ago. I need to call and get update. If I do i'll let you know. I take minipress 2mg x5/day for my autonomicdysreflexia? dont quote spelling. I'll look into it ..eventually.

So, what if you're already hypotensive?...

(envisioning the full med cabinet and the ups and downs of trying to get it to work without dropping dead...:D )

Yeah, my BP has always been pretty normal. :D

I take a tiny dose of lisinopril each day (10 mg) and I tried telling my MS neuro about this benefit but he didn't agree.

JackD,

Be careful or you'll need to take one of these blood pressure pills, lol. :)

You are right ewizabeth, I need to have more fun or another glass of "reserva" wine.

So here is a summary of what I have found about blood pressure meds and neuro conditions.

Calcium Channel Blockers especially (dihydropyridine derivatives which includes nifedipine, isradipine, felodipine, nimodipine and amlodipine) may help many neuro conditions.

Some ACE (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme) inhibitors like Captopril may have a good neuroprotective effect.

Simvastatin (ZOCOR) is associated with a reduced incidence of dementia and Parkinson's disease that is not found with most other statin drugs.

This seems to be good material to discuss with your doctors if you need to take meds to control your blood pressure and/or cholesterol and you have a neuro condition.

Now I will add the facts from PUB-MED.

Thanks for posting this, Karilann. I take a BP med and wasn't aware of this. I take Diovan but I'm going to ask my PCP for something else as it's just too expensive and there's no generic here in the U.S.
