Right hip is higher and mri results
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and I'm hoping that someone can help me out. I had a L4 laminotomy and microdiscectomy in 2003. I also had a L5 microdiscectomy at the same time. I felt completely normal for 2 years after the surgery. Over the last couple of years I have had sciatic pain. My right hip is now higher than the other. I did 6 months of physical therapy about 2 years ago and I just finished 3 months of chiropractic. I just got my MRI results. It says "There is a persistent or a current extruded disk herniation which impinges upon the thecal sac and the proximal right L5 nerve root." Can anyone put this into english to help me understand it better? Thanks, Deb |
Welcome to NeuroTalk Deb. :Wave-Hello:
I don't have any knowledge in this area but there are others here who do. Someone should see your post and offer some tips to figure out what they're saying on your report. Take care. |
Hi, Deb,
The extruded disk herniation means that the nucleus pulposus (the material inside the disk) went out through the anulus fibrosus, but the nuclear material remains attached to the intervertebral disk. The herniation is pressing the nerve roots. The thecal sac is made by various nerve roots, because there is no spinal cord in the lumbar area of the spine. In your case the right lumbar root is pressed. Adomas |
