New Molecular Entities

An attempt to get new treatments (NME) instead of "me too " drugs that we already have.

Yes 'an, all that

"New molecular entities" for PD probably will not be anymore than palliatives, if the molecules are small. What we need is replacement of dying cells and/or enhancement of activity in any affected cells specific to the dopamine pump in the small areas of the brain. The first is "supergigantic micromolecular", or whole cell replacements. The second is a concentration of investigation of the "micro-midworld" where we are using cellular mechanism studies to repair the dopamine pump as it is being destroyed. This therapy is that of "very large to small peptides range" (sorta like cell growth factors).
WE need to get a grip on genetic abberations and how we can alter or manipulate them to perform whatever actions result in normal Dopaminergic functioning.
10 years, eh? Lets hope it's no more than like 20 or so. :)

drat!!

I have talked with several noted researchers who all state that a genetic solution to PD is 50 years away........ lets hope they are wrong!!

science series

did anyone else watch the charlie rose program 2 nocs ago-jan 9th? Dr. Paul Nurse, president of rockefeller Univ (Nobel Prize laureate for Physiology and Medicine--for experiments determining cell cycle regulation--related to kinases) is a co-host with charlie rose in this science series. the second program in the series had Dr. James Watson (of the DNA duo watson/crick) Dr. Eric Lauder, Professor of Biology at MIT and Craig Venter (biologist who founded the Institute for Genomic research sequenced the human genome for several individuals , including himself).
I found very interesting how much the discussions focused upon the importance of environmental infulences --esp. dr. lauder's. Dr. Watson seemed assurred that a fellow colleague has found the answer to alzheimer's, though did not elaborate.
the following is a web site for the first in the series--the site for the 2nd program is not availiable yet....
