Question about SSD (childs part)

Hi everyone im new to the forum.

My ex husband was approved for disability 2 weeks ago after filing and being denied since 2003. My sons part will be 797 a month. What im wondering is, will my son get a backpay check too? Will social security get with me about it or will the check just magically show up in the mail? lol seriously ive never dealt with this kind of thing before and any of your help will be appreciated!

Thanx

Pink

Welcome to NeuroTalk Pink! :Wave-Hello: I don't know much about this but someone should be along and have some information for you. Have you checked the government website? They have a lot of info there.

http://www.ssa.gov/onlineservices/

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I'm not sure if it is in every case, but my DD did receive a backpay check around the time when I received mine. I had to go to SS and give them her bank account information and they deposited it there.

I gave the direct deposit information when I applied for dependent benefits for my kids. Their back pay checks just magically appeared one day. The direct deposit and subsequent checks still haven't appeared.....5 months later. They sent me a letter (as custodial parent, to my house) saying they couldn't send the checks because they don't have the address. Huh ?

One of these days, I'll feel decent and haul my butt over to the SS office.

I think you should go to your local ss office and make sure they have the paperwork for your son to get benefits and that they have your address, not your ex's to send the checks too.

Good Luck !

This sounds like a question that can only be answered on a case by case basis by the SSA? Have you asked them? What do they say?

This may be one of the few times in the process that your U.S. Senator or Congressman MAY be able to help.

Ask them for help. You will have to give written permission for them to discuss your case w/SSA.

I won my hearing in June and received my 2 years backpay in November. It can take months to get the backpay. My kid's portion showed up a few weeks before mine did however. They do not get in any hurry. My monthly benefits only took 6 weeks to start.
