When I get high speed
and a laptop, I'm going to spend a day in bed reading every post in every thread until my eyes explode. Once I get behind in a thread (read: miss the first six posts) I never catch up. I read a lot of thread titles thinking "I'm gonna come back later and read that one."
On that same day, I'm going to wish everybody a happy birthday on their HBTY thread, AND I'm going to make wise and witty and compassionate comments on every thread. Probably the same day the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch. |
When we moved into the backwoods of NH, we had NO choices for internet other than dial up! it was 2 years of agony! I had high speed machines, and a high speed mind! it was awful, and God forbid someone try to email me a photo of a lengthy article. I might as well go have lunch, and finish the laundry before I can see it.
I hope you get it soon! |
Same problem here! I hate dialup, but it's what we have and it's a lot better now than when I first got it at 18k. 56k is blazing speed even if it only comes in at around 50.2k!
It's like that old commercial when the kid was downloading a file, he went out and played basketball, ate lunch, and kept yelling to his mother "IS IT DONE YET??" There's no watching TV, YouTube, listening to internet radio stations, watching funny clips, etc. etc. etc. It even takes a long time to open pages here when they are graphic intense or people have glittergraphics running on their posts. Birthday threads will kill my machine, lock it up and leave me wondering what stopped me this time. That's why I don't get to post on a lot of birthday threads, I have to catch them at the very start or I cannot get them open to post because of all the pretty birthday greeting graphics! Someday we in the woods will be up to speed with some sort of high speed internet, but of course it will have moved to a new faster speed sort of transmission and we will be left behind again...:( |
If you have Fairpoint B2U it may be years before you see any DSL up your way. 2 years ago Verizon ran the fiber optic cable past my brothers house in Jamaica. Then came the sale of the phone lines to fairpoint.
My bro is still on dialup with a blazing speed of 10k  The funny thing is is that our nephew is the district manager for Fairpoint. We threatened to hold him down and give him noogies and indian rope burn at the family get together this summer unless he hooked up my brother to high speed. Still nothing! |
I can actually see the Comcast cable from where I sit, but we just can't afford it....a few more months of wait-up, and I might cut back on medication or chocolate or something, and sign up anyway. It just recently came through here.

So I'm wicked busy................ and stressed..................... and thinking of cutting back.................. But the phone keeps ringing and things are booking up for next year. When will I ever learn? |
Bless your heart, Pete. I'm glad you can still do it...Yeaaaaaaa!!!
Just try not to overdo and stress is a big no no.. |
Pete's right!
Fairpoint sucks! I have them for a phone co. and I couldn't even get them to come and replace my 50 year old phone wire from the pole to my house until it mysteriously got ripped down...:D With the whole Verizon debacle, it's possible we may never get DSL as long as they own the lines. Ahhhh well, they are the tenth phone company that has owned my service and I figure eventually another sucky phone company will come along and buy them out. It would be nice if one of the bigger ones would buy, so we could at least call out of town without incurring long distance charges! |
I have TimeWarner broadband.
Everytime the weather changes, out it goes. Almost as bad as me! :p Dh has one of those wireless cards - Sprint? Not too shabby, considering where he is. |
