Do TRIGGER POINT Injections help Peripheral Neuropathy???

As my Spinal Cord Implant Trial date gets closer, I'm frantically trying to find SOMETHING i may have missed during all my other failed procedures.
One thing i never really embarked upon was the Trigger Point Injection route. To be honest, i don't even know much about it. I remember i DID ask a doc sometime during my 5 year ordeal, but i never got a straight answer?

Would it be possible to benefit from TrP injections in my case? My PN is in both legs with the most piercing pain at the knees. Each leg feels like it weighs 200 lbs and the BURNING pain is unbearable. I'm sick of surfing the web for answers so i thought maybe the friends here happen to know anything about this???

What is used in the injections? a numbing agent? I don't respond to any type of anti inflammatory meds. I've had a couple of sympathetic nerve block injections to the lower spine with very little shortlived relief. I'm just wondering if injecting SOMETHING where the small nerve fibers are damaged will be of benefit?
DESPERATE !!! :yikes:

Hi
I've had trigger point injections in my scapular area for pain from my spine and surgeries there. The PM used cortisone. She sprayed the area with something REALLy cold, I don't know the name, and then did the injections. They did help, relief lasted about 6 months. When she was finished, she applied an ice pack for about 10 min, then a Lidoderm patch, and sent me on my way.

But I am diabetic also, and the cortisone shot my #s up, and made me sick. I don't want to do that again, so I have had Botox injections in the same area. Again, the relief lasts about 6 months. My side effect from the Botox is my nose starts running before I get out of the office, like I'm catching a cold.

I might be weird, but if I had the chance for SCS, I jump for it (at least as fast as this creaky body would let me)

I haven't studied PN but I have learned a lot about trigger points.
I used the hands on self therapy for my RSI TrPs.
The ones I couldn't get rid of myself , my chiro worked on and was able to resolve them.

Do you think you have actual trigger points? {info links below}

If you do are you sure they are related to the PN or could you possibly have a secondary condition that involves the muscles/fascia?

I would try acupuncture and/or manual TrP and then move to the injections if I felt a need.
Or
Low Level Laser? {aka cold laser}
IF stim - Inferential stimulation {like TENS only better for some things}

TrPs-
{a very sore small area- like a small bump or knot in the muscle}
They are located in the muscles but they can cause referred pain & symptoms in other places.

trigger points {Trigger points or trigger sites are described as hyper irritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle ...}

Thanks for responding

Now i see why i didn't really get a clear answer from my doc when i asked about TrP Inj.......there's aLOT to it! I guess my pain condition is too broad and widespread for this....Thanks Jo*Mar for the info !

Barb, thanks to you as well, sorry your treatments didn't go as hoped....also thanks for the words of encouragement on the SCS ! Believe me, it's a huge decision in so many ways, but i honestly feel as tho i've exhausted all other avenues.... have you been told you are not a candidate for SCS?

I have tried acupuncture, but probably didn't stick with it as long as needed....just got tired of throwing down fifty dollar bills with no obvious results.

Keep the Faith

Hi
Yes, my former PM told me I wasn't ready for SCS yet. Hmmm, he doesn't live in this body! He closed his practice, and went to a hospital. I haven't brought it up with the new PM, yet. I have a great TENS, so am used to the sensation, but they can be a problem sometimes with all the wires and just in general.

Good luck with whatever you do!
