Mega computer attack AVG 8 exp today

So the desktop has AVG in it.. SOmething said December 1 that upgrade to 9 is needed. Thinking it is a pay deal, the kids decide OKay to have AVG 8.0 active BUT it expired today...
I can't even open a program to scan, isolate, install or anything. I tried installing hijackthis, and the computer won't let any program open.

Trying to force me to open and install a protector not mine....

Right now it is disconnected from the I-net so no access. I am not sure where to even begin.

Will not start in safe mode, all the pop ups block and stop on normal start.
I do not even know where the start up disk is,
Blaming it on the dang World of War craft. SOmething must have keystroke access.

Hi Jo,
I got on the lap top and downloaded some restoring, the AVG 9.0 that should have been updated the day before,

I could not get it started in Safe mode, but could in regular mode which wanted me to sign on the Internet and buy the software program they were liking.
I could drag all my pictures and word doc to the external drive in case I had to do a master restore.

After I backed it all up, I went back two days for a restart.
I did not get any of the pop ops or take over of the computer any more.

So I got all the things back ran the software, isolated 4 potential threats, and am running a master clean up now on the whole system, and the external drive.

I think this resolved it not to need to reformat the entire system...
What a pain, if only the son would have updated or mentioned to me.

Oh, I hate the new I-explorer 8.0 too.
I think I will just go with fire fox.

thanks for the links, I am burning everything to CD any more and saving it. No good if it is saved on the burnt system.
