Naltrexone Anyone ?

Hi guys

Just wondering if any fellow PN sufferers have heard of "Naltrexone" ?
I did a quick search on the forum and couldn't find any posts in the PN section that were very recent.
I accidentally stumbled accross this med as i was searching for aides in tapering off opioids...specifically the duragesic patch (which by the way has saved my sanity and i very much have appreciated this med)...
Call it wishful thinking, or naive stupidity -- either one -- but i am hoping to be done with the majority of this @#$%&! battle within the next several months and the description of this med has me intrigued....if it is indeed what i'm hoping it to be.
Does anyone here have anything to say about it, or am i simply out in left field (again):boy(music):

I can't stand the thought of 'withdrawals'......

Actually, i landed on a website out of curiosity talking about rapid withdrawal via anesthesia and that is how i came accross it.
Wasn't gonna admit that part :paperbag: I'm sure THAT is playing with fire?

Be gentle on me.....it's been a bad week

I don't know what all you are on, and what all you want to get off of.

Withdrawal is best accomplished one drug at a time, or you can shock your system. I did my withdrawals awfully close together.

One thing I can tell you is adding another drug often complicates the course.

Now that I am off stuff, I can feel a Tylenol kick in. I am no where near 'normal' and wonder if there is a normal anymore. That said, it is amazing how clear my head is. I am sleeping some most nights, without any pills! Yes, I am in pain most days, but it is tolerable, for now.

If I should take any med that affects the GABA system, such as a hydrocodone, it throws me right into huge withdrawal, like the first or second week, so that motivates me not to take a thing and just to tolerate whatever is bugging me.

Withdrawal is uncomfortable but one can get thru it. Just have patience and set your goals way out. Good luck. I am pulling for you.

Thanks 4 keeping this thread alive

Cycleops - thank u
Was beginning to think this question was a lost cause, but did get some good advice on the other thread (Quitting Fentanyl)
Thanks for being so open about your ordeal....it's inspiring to say the least...you've had a heck of a go.
Was gonna ask u what dose Fentanyl you were on (if u don't mind sharing)...
I'm currently up to 100mcg/48 hours.....they are supposed to last 3 days, but not me. So i spoke my concerns to my pain doc Re: my tolerance going up and asked to get the 50's to try and taper down........yeah. :Red eyes:
So NOW what's happening is......more like 150's cuz i end up with THRREEEE fricken patches on! Not all at once, but invariably end up with these damn things all over me !!!!!

I bet i DO end up in a psyche ward. oh well.
Man, i used to be an intelligent person with lots of ambitions and a contribution to society.....

No Sweetie, you will not end up in a psych ward.

I was on 50mcg every 3 days, but was experiencing tolerance withdrawal.

You need to cut down slowly, perhaps by 12.5mcg. Talk to your doc. You can not cold turkey off fentanyl.

You can go onto oxycodone as you come off...then taper that. It is possible to go off fentanyl. Several of us have done it on here. I did it more than once.

Benzodiazepines are much worse of a problem...(xanax, valium, klonopin etc.)

You will be fine....keep the faith.

Thanx

Thanks for that :winky:

I do tend to be an 'all or nothing' type person. l need to realize that it took me 4.5 yrs to get to this point so it's gonna be a slow go gettin back DOWN the hill.....

You have a nice way of helping a person get from 'total panic' mode down a few notches......
Much apprecitated....

cyclelops 12-08-2009 03:11 PM

No problem.

It is all fixable. You are gonna be fine, and you are probably more sane than you think.

Cyclelops & socks

Hey there.....
This thread sorta just turned into a 'you and me' thread :p

Just wanted to thank you for all ur input....don't have time to type much today or tomorrow. Read the stuff on the other threads - will let it
'absorb' into my brain

So Sorry about the 'nose sock' ....wish i had some valuable input to give back but for now all i have to offer is regular stupidity....

If it makes you feel and better....i'm wearing a BUTT-sock.....but don't ask.
Just back from the cold, taking care of horses
:deadhorsebeat:
