Do you consider polyneuropathy similiar to peripheral neuropathy? Iwas diagnosed with polyneuropathy today. My autonomic nerves are affected too. (digestion) Also nerve damage in hands and feet and abdominal area. I posted a new to forum bio that tells more. Shelley I am on Cymbalta and Gabapentin.

There are many here who have terrific knowledge and you will find them very helpful. I would think you belong here, neuropathy tends to seek out extremities but also gives lots of members here alot of other problems too. I have burning mouth and digestive problems that I never had before the onset of peripheral neuropathy. Ask away here and you'll get information, advice and stuff you'll never get from your doctor.

Peripheral neuropathy is the catch-all term--
 

--for any damage to nerves that happens outside the brain and spinal cord.

With this category, there is mononeuropathy--damage to one peripheral nerve; multiple mononeuropathy--damage to multiple individual nerve tracts; and polyneuropathy--damage to many nerves in many places.

Polyneuropathy is just a word for how many nerves are affected, as Glenn said.

I have something similar to you, autonomic and sensory peripheral neuropathy and I have a diagnosis of Sjogren's and/or some additonal autoimmune process. Often times when you have a polyneuropathy, especially involving autonomic nerves, the docs will do exhaustive testing to find the cause.

Autonomic Neuropathy can be difficult to manage, but it can be controlled to some extent. The biggest thing is getting to know your body and which measures help and which ones do not.
