Neurotrophin Nt3 - Please help me...

Hello

What happened to this study, please read it:

http://www.neuropathy.org/site/DocSe....pdf?docID=702

The mail of the person that did this study is this: zhoul2@ccf.org

http://www.lerner.ccf.org/jobs/postdoc/view.php?id=386

We should try to know if Neurotrophin NT3 are still in study or to be release soon. I already e-mail this doctor but with no reply till this day. I ask you for your help since I don't live in the US to try getting in contact with this lady.

Thanks

Filipe

One study does not mean a drug will come from it.

The problems involve:
making the product (often biologicals are very expensive, up to $10,000 a month or more). Some are made by DNA recombinant technology, so that has to be worked out. Others are extracted from animal tissue, and this involves risk of contamination by organisms. Things like IVIG are made from 1000's of blood donations, and have to be "washed" to remove viruses etc.

Extensive testing, in US are 3 levels. Looking for benefit and safety. This is very expensive and time consuming.

Marketing it...if it is only injectable like Neurotrophin-3 it has to be formulated to be STABLE and easily used. It may have to be a powder that is reconstituted, etc. Manufacturing it in sterile conditions is also very costly and must be developed for each drug. It might require injecting into IV only...which would mean doctors would have to administer it. It might have to be injected into the brain or spinal cord and that maybe very risky and involve hospitalization etc.

Problems can be allergic reactions, unwanted stimulation of other body systems, and in some cases DEATH is possible, from biological drugs. With a thing like Neurotrophin-3 and BDNF I'd worry about tumor stimulation on normal nerves..these are growth factors and may do that in humans.

It is really complex....VERY.

Now the Neurotropin (NT) from Japan is another thing entirely. It is used orally...it might come here more quickly. The names are similar, so don't get confused.

What may happen with the growth factors is that a stimulant substance may be discovered to stimulate the recipient into making more of the factor, and that would make it less expensive to manufacture. But FINDING the stimulating thing may take alot of time in itself.

oh!! Snif...snif....:( I though it was something we could take it oraly. Like a pill or something. I don't understand nothing of biology. Anyway, I would love to read the whole/complete study. If you do find it please let me know. In the meantime maybe with your high connections (LOL) you could get in touch with this lady...

I don't have "high" connections! Sorry :Dunno:

But I wonder if you are reading my two posts carefully? There are TWO chemicals that look and sound alike that are very different. Neurtropin (NT) is available orally and I put up some studies on that this morning... it is only in Japan at this time.

I was joking when I said that you have "high" connections! :)

mrsD 12-15-2009 12:58 PM

Okay, sorry about that. LOL:) Now I understand.
