Trying to make friends
Hi my name is Jennifer and I am 22yrs. old. I love to be on the computer on these websites, I don't have very many friends, but I am glad I found this website. I have congenital hydrocephalus, but I am afraid if I don't have a problem with my hydro than no one will speak to me. I don't have very many friends and I think it is because I am adopted and my family is white, and I am biracial, or because of my hydro or because I have a mild mental disability. People will talk to me for awhile and than it is like they just all don't want to talk anymore. I don't talk about hydro much, because I haven't had any problems with it, but if I have a question I go to the hydro board and not very many people talk to me there. I like sports, basketball, soccer and football. My favorite basketball team is the Detriot Pistons and the University of Kentucky Wildcats. I don't really have a favorite soccer team. I played soccer in high school, they were afriad to let me play because of the hydrocephalus. My favorite Football team is the New England Patriots.

hi Jennifer,
We chatted before and I would love to talk with you about anything you would like. You do not have to talk about illness. You can join in the word games or post poems or your favorite things. It takes time for anyone to open up on this site but just do what you want and post what you want. I will look for your postings and I will respond. Promise. :) You are not an outsider here. People are people and there are many good people here to listen to you. You also can e-mail me like you did before. Not everyone on here responds to new comers for awhile. Do not take it personal. Take care and hope to chat with you soon. Jude |
Hi Jennifer :)
My name is Liz. I'm 31 and married... we have no kids due to infertility but we have 3 cats (ages 7, 4 and 1) that are adorable. We live in New England and we watch football, but my husband and I are both NY Giants fans. My husband got to go to a game at Giants stadium on Christmas Eve and it was the first time he had ever been to Giants Stadium so he was very very happy! I also like hockey and NASCAR racing. My favorite hockey team is the NY Rangers and my favorite NASCAR drivers are Tony Stewart and Dale Jr. Some of my favorite hobbies are playing computer games, reading mystery and suspense novels, and working on my artwork. I don't often have a lot of physical energy to paint and do other art things lately, but I enjoy it so much so I try to do a little bit at a time. I also have a hard time making friends. I have an anxiety disorder that makes me worry a lot so that sometimes make it hard for me to talk to people. Another reason it is tough for me to make new friends is that I have nothing in common with most people my age. People my age tend to discuss jobs and their kids - and I don't work due to a disability and we don't have kids, so I have a hard time finding things to talk to people about. I hope we can talk more and get to know each other better :) Liz |
Liz,
You do have kids.....they are 7, 4 and 1 and don't you forget it. :) I just had to put my best friend/dog-human and who I considered to be my youngest son to sleep last Friday. It does hurt as much as my own flesh and blood. Your cats are a valuable part of your life and they need all the love you give them. I bet they run the house. I know my pets did. We all have a cause in life and not every-ones is to be a parent. I am certain that you have a very important purpose on this earth. I hope people don't ask you all those thoughtless questions because you don't have children. If they do, remember, questions like that come out of the mouths of not-so-bright people. They speak before they think. Forgive them for their big-mouths........:icon_wink: Animals need us and it is people like you that save them. They are three very lucky cats. You know I think you rock!!!!!!!! Judy Quote:

Hi, Jennifer! What a brave, wonderful post. :) Thank you for that.
I'm KD, or Kim, or Kimmy, or anything you want to call me as long as it's nice. ;) I'm 43, with two grown daughters 19 & 24. My younest is going to make me a grandma. I just found out Christmas Eve. My oldest and her husband are just in the beginning process of purchasing their first home. I'm also raising my 4-year-old nephew. He's the light of my life. I'm an administrator here as well as at Psych Central ( www.psychcentral.com ) You're welcome to go over there and visit as well. :) They have alot of information and a very active community forums too. If you click that link, from there you can read a bit then click on "community" to view the forums. I live with Trigeminal Neuraligia and I don't talk about it alot either. It's managed pretty well with meds but because I had no one to understand me for over 16 yrs (let alone put me down for it) it kinda panics me to talk about it in-depth. I'm trying to learn to. The people here help me so much with that because they accept me at my own pace. :) You don't have to talk about your hydro. You can talk about anything. We have many forums from social to depression to post in. If you ever have a topic issue and aren't sure where it goes, don't hesitate to PM me and I'll help you there. Also, you can respond in any thread you'd like whenever you want to offer support or just share something. You're off to a great start and I'm glad you're here. :) KD |
Hi Jennifer,
Welcome to this site! I'm actually very new myself....not only to this site but to ANY site like this where I can "talk" to others. I love reading the encouragement written to everyone who needs it. Your story touched my heart! I, too, was adopted (along with my twin sister). Although, there wasn't the "different race" issue. You sound like a truly special young woman. You have great communication skills. Please keep writing here! I'm going through a lot of physical stuff right now, and can't always be on or check often. But when I can I'll watch for your notes! Have a blessed week! Denise |
Hi, Denise! :)
What a special note you wrote! Welcome and I'm glad you've found us. There's such caring here. I'm glad you've come to help us build a wonderful community. :) KD |
Hi Jennifer. We met when you posted in Survivors of Suicide. I'm 57, I think, single and have a 30-year-old daughter. She's married to a very nice man and have a baby boy who is 17 months old. I don't have any favorite anthing sports teams, ... well, except my son-in-law is a die-hard Packer fan, so we all cheer for the Packers.
Have you started college yet? I think I remember you talking about starting school. Lots of friends can be made there. I checked around on the internet and found some good pieces of advice about making friends. Maybe you will have time to check them out. Hugs. Building friendships Making and keeping friends. |
Jennifer,
See................there are wonderful people on here and are ready to chat with you any time. You are being greeted by people with open arms and big hearts. You can chat when you want or just check things out until you are ready to join in. That's what it's all about here. Support from those who truly care how you feel. Judy |
KD, It just registered with me.......YOU ARE GOING TO BE A GRANDMA!!! How cool is that???? My grandson will be 7 in March. If I would have known that being a granny was going to be so much fun I would have skipped having kids and went right to grandma. LOL
Congratulations... http://bestsmileys.com/family/10.gif Quote:
