Pregnenolone

I read Dr. Tennent's suggestion for supplements on Intractable Pain and he gave a suggestion to taking 50-100 mg. of pregnenolone a day to help with basic adrenal hormone and nerve healing. Anyone had any experience with it?

Thanks!! Vanna

Have you had Vitamin D testing? Very low levels are found in chronic pain patients recently.

I am sorry I can't comment on pregnenolone, but I would be leary of anything that stimulates hormone production.

A warning about pregnenolone, it's pretty powerful in terms of hormonal stimulation. Research the side effects in regard to dosage and frequency of use. You don't want to grow a beard, sing bass in a barbershop quartet or turn meaner than a junkyard dog!

I took 100 mg daily for a short while and noticed unwanted effects so I backed off to once week, not daily.

Tough to take. Do not know where it will go on your adrenal cascade, meaning it could stimulate increases in the wrong kind of hormone.

Better to xupplement progesterone or testosterone depening on what you are low in. Progesterone is a relaxant and helps pain levels.

But get tested to see what your levels are first and what you are deficient in. Be sure to test progesterone on day 21 of your cycle.
