Gabapentin?
Does anyone take this for pain?
I took 300mg 3x a day for 3 weeks and compared to Tegretol it has hardly any side effects for me...but also very few effects period. Didn't feel like it was helping with the pain much. My GP told me that often people need to take higher doses for it to work (2700mg/day), so just wanted to hear your experiences with this drug. For me tegretol makes me quite dizzy and sleepy even at 200mg/day. My pain is inside the left nostril and mild to modorate and usually more constant, so more of the atypical category. |

Works
I was on 1800 mg. of Gabapentin for 4 or 5 months and it really helped me with no bad side effects. Can you give it a little more time or even up the dose. I was on 900 mg. and it wasn't working that well, that's when they increased it to 1800 mg and it helped.

I am on 1800mg of gabapentin and have been for about 2 months now. It dulls the pain for me but doesnt eliminate it. I have GN not trigeminal neuralgia. The pain has been increasing so that now i get a hint of jabbing pain as well as the ache. Talking seems to aggrevate the condition more than swallowing now. I had read that 1800mg is considered an optimum dose and that little improvement can be expected by taking more. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about the efficacy of higher doses? I really dont want to change medications if possible as gabapentin has so few side effects. I found Tegretol to either work brilliantly, or not work at all, or give me horrible dizzy spells. I think it must be hard to get the levels exactly right.
would love to hear from anyone with similar experiences. |
