Neurotalk: improving the communication of neuroscience research

Abstract
There is increasing pressure for neuroscientists to communicate their research and the societal implications of their findings to the public. Communicating science is challenging, and the transformation of communication by digital and interactive media increases the complexity of the challenge. To facilitate dialogue with the public in this new media landscape, we suggest three courses of action for the neuroscience community: a cultural shift that explicitly recognizes and rewards public outreach, the identification and development of neuroscience communication experts, and ongoing empirical research on the public communication of neuroscience.

the only one I recognize is Arthur Caplan, the bioethicist from U Penn - he's the guy who represented Amgen's point of view on the 60 Minutes GDNF show. He is also often used as an expert on CNN, etc.

This looks really interesting though I don't think it's a reference to us...hard to tell since once again, we're locked out because full-text access is cost prohibitive to us outside the field.

I did run across this interesting looking conference of neuroscientists convening in June of this year. - Laura

carey, will attempt to obtain the full text. my supplier no longer has reliable access. sad to know one of the authors represented Amgen. perhaps he is expiating his sins? more likely he remains on their payroll. Maybe he is a pharma mole. I have a very active imagination. madelyn
