AZILECT® My Exercise Contest Will Send Two to Unity Walk

December 2006 My Parkinson's Info Newsletter

AZILECT® is the new MAO inhibitor that is helping people with Parkinson’s improve movement, and decrease stiffness and “off” time. The Parkinson’s community anxiously anticipated it because AZILECT® makes their dopamine work longer. It helps keep the scarce dopamine circulating in their bodies for a longer period of time by slowing down the rate at which it breaks down or “wears out.” In clinical trials, the group of patients taking AZILECT® experienced the decline of Parkinson’s disease at a slower rate. This helped many to stay active and keep moving.

Not only is AZILECT® keeping people moving on a daily basis, it wants to help a lucky winner get New York this Spring. People with Parkinson’s disease, their caregivers and friends are eligible to enter a contest for a chance to win a trip for two to the Parkinson’s Unity Walk in New York City in April 2007. Teva Neurosciences, AZILECT’s manufacturer, sponsors the contest.

Teva Pharmaceutical wants people living with Parkinson’s disease to be as healthy as possible. They recognize that exercise is a vital component of Parkinson’s disease therapy. Teva Neurosciences kicked off AZILECT® My Exercise to encourage people to exercise. First, AZILECT® My Exercise helps you to track your exercise using the Teva Move It Meter. The Move It Meter converts your exercise “minutes moved” into miles, plotting your progress from California to New York. As everyone progresses along the Move It Meter, they will notice the improvements in health, motion and mood.

Second, AZILECT® My Exercise is the contest we mentioned above. You can click here to access the entry form. However, an entry form alone is not enough for this contest. After submitting your information, Teva wants to hear from you about exercise. For part II of your entry, write in 100 words or less: How has exercise helped you or someone you know manage Parkinson’s disease?

Five Grand Prize Winners will be selected from entries based on originality, creativity, responsiveness to the question and grammatical correctness. A panel of judges will evaluate the entries. Winners and a guest will receive airfare for two to New York City, plus two nights' hotel accommodations to attend the Unity Walk. For a complete list of Rules and Eligibility, click here.

The My Parkinson’s Info community appreciates Teva Neuroscience’s vision. Besides introducing a new medication that is likely to help millions, Teva has looked beyond medication. Teva’s commitment to exercise and activity exhibits its true dedication to health and wellbeing. If you would like to enter the AZILECT® My Exercise Contest, click on this registration link.
