Poor Haiti. They are so poor.

Debbie D 01-12-2010 05:46 PM

Sheesh...they need this like a hole in the head...I'll be watching the news to see what's up...thanks for the info...

Chemar 01-12-2010 05:59 PM

I am following it on CNN

was only 6 miles underground so they say the effects far more devastating

tsunami warning is up in the Carribean

the people of Haiti have so little and the infrastructure so poor that this is catastrophic :(

SallyC 01-12-2010 10:28 PM

Why do these horrible things always seem to happen to the poorest most ill prepared people.:(

Thanks, Ill be praying.

I was watching the early news about this this morning. As I lay there all cuddled up in my warm bed....with dry clothes on....not hungry or thirsty or cold. Made me feel very blessed and sort of guilty at the same time. Those poor people. Sally's right. It does seem like things like this happen to those who can least afford the circumstances.

SallyC 01-13-2010 12:29 PM

They are estimating that thousands are dead!!:( Many will die, trapped and unable to get free.:(

Debbie D 01-13-2010 01:45 PM

I just heard 100K are likely dead:(
Was listening to a phone interview on local news channel. A dad had talked to his DD who was 10 miles from Port Au Prince...she's safe, but wants to get home...however, with the UN peacekeepers' numbers being decimated, there's no security to get through Port Au Prince, which is very dangerous. They are calling on the State Dept. to try to airlift American survivors. The dad sounded so worried...said his DD told him of things she saw that not many people would ever see...the horror. the dead and dying...
pray for Haitians...

Chemar 01-14-2010 12:00 PM

I dont think we will ever know the extent of the loss of life:(

apparently there have been no census, and record keeping is abysmal so no one really knows how many people were actually in the area

I was watching Anderson Cooper live last night and the heartbreak magnifies when there is mass panic in the dark as huddled people hear rumors of tsunami flooding....it seems the ploy is that in the panic to run, they leave their meager possessions for the thieves who started the panic to nab:mad:

my prayers are lifted continuously for the people there and their loved ones here and elsewhere who are trying to connect with them.
the unbelievable devastation and human suffering has impacted me very intensely.

Me, too, Chemar. There was a man locally here who was on the phone with the news who doesn't know if his mother, sister and niece are alive. He cried while on the phone and that just broke my heart. Everytime the news covers the loss it just touches my heart and I wish so badly that there was something I could do to help. I pray alot but I wish there was more.
