It is a sad situation bizi.
I also feel awful for the two older siblings. They are possibly better off for having been taken into care, but even then.
Carolyn's daughter from the first marriage has apparently been adopted, I hope into a caring family.
Abuse at any level is unpardonable. :(

I hate Katie Couric, but the 60 Minutes interview in the link is ok

Hi

I watched the whole 15 mins show.
Katie Couric says in the Oct 2007 Sixty Minutes tv interview,
Quote:

and while most doctors now believe that a child can be bipolar, there is no definitive test. . . . . . But even the top researchers cannot agree on exactly what bipolar disorder looks like in children or at what age it can be diagnosed
(at approx 7 mins).
We need a definitive test. Please.

What a mess.

I remember when this happened. Frightening. I am just so sad for the loss of the little girl who if you ask me was far too young for a dx of BP....Just my two cents.

I am not able to watch the video. Life is so precious to me. And when I hear about a child dyeing, I become livid. Bipolar has it's roots. You can see if it is in your family. That was how I found out I got it. It would give you a clue. Also children at age 4 are too YOUNG FOR MEDICATION. What were they thinking? I think first grade age like 6 or 7 will ok. But it depends on what medicine it is. And what it does to the child. There needs to be extra care when it comes to these matters.

I am sorry for the child

give us that definitive test please.

Rebecca Riley: Lessons to be Learned
On Tuesday, February 9th, after 19 hours of deliberation, a jury found Rebecca Riley’s mother, Carolyn Riley, guilty of second degree murder in Rebecca’s death in December 2006 due to an overdose of psychiatric medication. It made me sad to read this, mostly because it doesn’t bring Rebecca back and it doesn’t solve the bigger [...]
